Character actor Dido de la Paz battles a rare form of cancer: ‘Wala akong naipon, Matagal na akong walang trabaho’

As one of the country’s talented character actors, Dido de la Paz already has more than four decades of acting in theater, television, and movies under his belt. Last seen in the 2019 Cinemalaya film entry Edward where he played the role of an aging tuberculosis patient, Dido was also part of the horror film The Heiress released the same year. The 65-year-old actor had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2018. Last September, he updated his friends about his condition.He wrote,“Friends...please continue to pray for me. I am not ‘out of the woods’ yet.“I experienced the worst night so far. Pain so severe, woke me up at 2 am and kept me awake. As I have no medication I had to cryingly endure it.“I have started to feel pain and discomfort from places I haven't felt pain before. I need medication but have no resources. I would gladly work even thru pain, but there is no work to be had. I'm so grateful to those kind hearts who responded to my plea for help.”Dido also requested for prayers from his friends as well as financial assistance for his family’s basic needs.“Food and basic needs of my family are no longer a dire emergency. My present battle against this invasive big C has stepped up and I have no bullets. Please continue to keep me in your prayers. If you feel you are being touched to extend financial assistance, please do so because I do need it badly as I believe I have now become part of the poverty line... (pls PM for details). Kailangan kong ma test to rule out TB dahil baka mahawaan ko ang pamilya ko, ang mommy ko na 96 yrs old na at mga anak kong mga bata pa. Hindi din daw makukuha sa chemo. Radioncology daw ang posible pero mahal. Kailangan ng cranial CT scan, chest CT scan, o baka petscan para isahan nalang. Lumolobo ang utak ko sa halagang kakailanganin. Gusto kong gumaling, lumaban! Gusto kong mabuhay, hindi para sa akin kundi para sa mga anak ko na mga nagaaral pa at ako lang ang inaasahan. Gusto ko sanang maka attend ng debut ng 14 year old daughter ko...pero paano?
