Long before he was launched as a member of the P-Pop group BGYO last year, Akira Morishita said he had already experienced acting in indie films like Sundalong Kanin, K as well as being part of the cast of the teleserye All of Me in 2015 where he played the role of Barbie Imperial’s love interest Ringgo. This year, Akira returns to acting in the iWantTFC series Bola Bola.

“Very exciting kasi before nag-acting naman ako pero ang tagal niyang nahinto. So nung sinabi nga ni direk Lauren (Dyogi) na may project at acting yung gagawin, sobrang na-excite ako and natuwa. I’m very happy,” he shared during his Bola Bola mediacon with co-star KD Estrada last March 18.

In Bola Bola, Akira plays the role of Lucas Benitez, the childhood best friend of the older brother of Thea (played by Francine Diaz) and the object of her affection who goes to the States and crosses paths with her again when he returns to the country a few years later. The 20-year-old Fil-Japanese artist admitted he had to adjust to acting again.

Very happy ako kasi tinutulungan ako nila KD (Estrada) at Francine (Diaz) kapag may eksena. Binibigyan nila ako ng tips,” he admitted.

During the mediacon, Akira also shared how his fellow BGYO members reacted to him being cast as one of the lead actors in Bola Bola along with KD Estrada and Ashton Salvador.

Sabi ko ayaw ipasabi and nung nalaman nila sabi nila, ‘Galingan mo. Dalhin mo yung buong BGYO. Pero alam naming kayang kaya mo yan!’ Natuwa pa sila. Nakakatuwa kasi very supportive sila,” he recalled.

Akira also shared the biggest lesson viewers can learn from his new series which shows how a chubby girl can overcome bullying and discover self-love despite all the challenges of teenage life.

“Ang lesson yung mahalin mo talaga yung sarili mo. Yung tipong kahit sabihin mong anong flaws man yan, mahalin mo yung sarili mo at yung taong naka-suporta sa ‘yo. Mas magiging happy ka emotionally and physically. Self-love talaga yung tumatak sa akin na lesson,” he said.
