In just a span of five years, actor and singer Wilbert Ross has definitely come a long way from his hometown of Hagonoy in Davao Del Sur after moving to Manila to pursue his showbiz dreams. Aside from being a promising singer, a Hashtags member, and a vlogger, Wilbert is slowly easing into the title of lead star after headlining films like Ang Crush Kong Curly and more recently Boy Bastos

“Siyempre sobrang nakakatuwa at nakakakilig. Tuwang tuwa talaga ako lalo na sa Boy Bastos at pinagkatiwalaan talaga sa akin yung pagiging si Boy Bastos which alam naman natin is very iconic nung 2000s. Sobrang happy ko lang talaga. Sana may sumunod pang projects na dadating sa akin and mapapangako ko naman na gagawin ko yung best ko sa bawat trabahong ibibigay sa akin,” he said.

Wilbert said there was a definite adjustment between being part of an all-male dance group to being known as a leading man.

“Siguro ang adjustment na nangyari sa akin on being a solo artist at wala na sa grupong Hashtags is yung parang lifestyle ko before. Kasi everyday kami sa Hashtags, six days a week so parang nagiging lifestyle ko siya na everyday gumigising ng maaga, pumapasok, nag-re-rehearse, umuuwi. So nagiging cycle siya. Nung nangyari yung pandemic pati yung (closure ng) ABS-CBN, nasanay kasi ako na may ginagawa araw-araw. Ayun yung pagbabago sa akin na parang wala na. Mag-aantay lang ako ng gagawin. Pero sa arts ko parang wala namang adjustment na nangyari kasi ever since mahal ko naman yung ginagawa ko sa pagkanta, pagsayaw, at pag-arte so hindi naman ako nahirapan,” he shared.

After his stint on Pinoy Boyband Superstar in 2016, Wilbert said he has always wanted to pursue a singing career. He even released his first single “Maaari Ba” in 2019. Despite headlining several Vivamax original projects during the pandemic, Wilbert said he is not choosing acting over singing.

“Pinu-push ko pa rin yung music ko. Hindi ko siya pinapabayaan. So maglalabas ng mga singles. Ito na yung plano ko. Sana mangyari siya. Kasi sa Crush Kong Curly, ako yung nagsulat at nag-perform nung OST ng Crush Kong Curly kaya for Boy Bastos ako din. So gusto ko gawin na for every project ko, as much as possible I’lI try my best na masulatan. Para habang nanunuod kayo maririnig niyo pa din yung background music na ako pa din yung kumakanta. So parang na-po-promote ko pa din yung dalawang bagay na mahal ko,” he stressed.

Aside from sexy comedies, Wilbert shared that his dream role is more complex and psychological in nature.

“Yung isa sa mga thriller na movie yung ako yung psycho or may sira sa utak or yung killer. yun yung isa sa mga dream role ko din. Just to prove myself that I can do a lot of things other than comedy. So thriller naman. yung parang mga ganun, mga psycho roles na gusto ko gawin in the future. Ako yung nang-hu-hunting,” he added.
