Lauren Dyogi confirms the return of Star Magic Ball and Star Magic Sportsfest: ‘We’re venturing into a new era’

At the launch of Star Magic’s year-long celebration to celebrate its 30th year, Star Magic head Lauren Dyogi kicked off the event by giving thanks to the founders of ABS-CBN’s talent management arm, namely Freddie M. Garcia, Johnny Manahan, and Mariole Alberto.

“Alam niyo naman madaming dinaanan ang Star Magic over 30 years. We’d like to thank the men and women who really started Star Magic. To FMG, to Mr.M and to Ms. Mariole, maraming salamat for laying the foundation and for building Star Magic. For this time, we’re venturing into a new era of Star Magic. In the 30 years and the 30 more years to come, marami kaming hinanda to celebrate the 30th anniversary. This is officially the start of the 30th year,” he announced.

After being appointed as head of Star Magic in 2020, Direk Lauren admitted they had to do a lot of adjustments not just because of the ongoing pandemic but also because of the changing landscape of entertainment in the country.

“There’s a history of 30 years and we’re venturing into a new era. So you have to plan more. At saka nagbago kasi ang landscape eh. Hindi na katulad ng dati na we were on free TV and it was so easy to come up with programs. It was so easy. We went with seemingly unlimited resources at that time. So ngayon iba na. Iba na ang engagement. Hindi lang naman sa free TV, there’s social media, there’s a lot of different platforms. The artists are still there wanting to build connections. So nandito pa rin kami para maging katuwang nila to help them, to support them, to really guide them to reach their goals. And I’m lucky in Star Magic nandiyan yung beteranong mga managers and road managers na patuloy na gumagabay sa kanila. But for activities and for trainings, we will continue to evolve, grow, and make activities not only to build camaraderie among the artists, but also to build their characters and also to build their skills. Abangan na lang nila,” he shared.

During the event, the Star Magic head confirmed the return of well-loved Star Magic events after two years of not being able to hold events because of safety restrictions.

“Madami namang plano. Ibabalik muna natin yung mga dating nakagawian natin, nakasiyahan tulad nung mga sportsfest, yung ball definitely that’s really something to look forward to. We’re now starting our catalogue shoot for the 2022 catalogue of our artists. We’re going to have a new website hopefully and we’re venturing to the international arena, not only through our productions but partnering. We’ve asked a lot of our artists to  audition for international productions. Ang dami daming possibilities,” he added.

Among the other plans revealed during Star Magic’s 20th anniversary event were more global events and collaborations of ABS-CBN with other digital platforms like kumu. Star Magic artists will also be working hand in hand with ABS-CBN Bantay Kalikasan and Bantay Bata and help in the response for victims of typhoon Odette through the Tulong Tulong sa Pag-Ahon campaign.

Despite the challenges that came with him taking on another role in the kapamilya network, Direk Lauren said he chooses to focus on constantly improving the company and growing with the times.

“Imagine what we were doing during the pandemic, at a time na talagang gipit and now that we’re slowly tumatayo tayo ng husto. Ang nakikita natin mas malawak yung mundo, mas maraming puwedeng gawin, mas maraming puwedeng puntahan. So yung competition hindi lang sarili mo pero yung buong mundo na ‘to eh. I don’t see it as a competition, I see it as a possibility of really reaching out to a more global audience,” he admitted.
