After being at the helm of Star Cinema’s 2021 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Love At First Stream, Cathy Garcia-Molina returns to the small screen this year with her first sweetcom My Papa Pi. The veteran director admitted that lead actor Piolo Pascual was a big factor in her accepting the project.
In My Papa Pi, Piolo and Pepe Herrera play twin brothers who live in a loving community called Mapag-asa Street.

“Ang top of all my reasons, si Piolo. I really want to work with Piolo kasi ang huling project namin Lobo pa. Dekada na yun. So na-miss ko na siya and ngayon parang once a year na ako mag-pe-pelikula, parang na-offer sa akin yung pagkakataon na ayan project ni papa Pi kaya um-oo ako. Yun talaga yun. Pangalawa it’s something new to me. Sitcom na naging sweetcom. Tapos na-cute-an ako sa idea na kambal si Pepe (Herrera) at si PJ. So natuwa ako dun. tapos siyempre meron ka pang queen P (Pia Wurtzbach) dito. Parang ang saya lang. Isa pa, ang lapit pa sa bahay ko ng location (laughs),” she shared during the My Papa Pi mediacon.
The kapamilya director admitted that if it were not for the pandemic, her plans of migrating to New Zealand would have pushed through already.
“Actually my children especially my daughter still wants to go to New Zealand. But because of the pandemic nagkaroon din ng avenue for a new company na na-put up ko with my friends na Nickl Entertainment and so far marami kaming natutulungang tao via this new company. So parang na-push back ng konti yung paglipad. Pero nandun pa rin yung kailangan naming umalis. Kailangan kong pagbigyan yung anak ko. Panay lang talaga ang katok ng kuwento. Siguro talaga pag isa kang mangenguwento, parang ang hirap umalis. Pag may magandang kuwento napapalingon ako pabalik (laughs),” she revealed.

The My Papa Pi director said she does not discount the possibility of shooting a film in New Zealand with a Filipino cast even after she moves there.
“Hindi malayong mangyari. Actually napag-isipan na. Kasi ang sabi ng Star Cinema sa akin before, kung nandun ako sila ang susunod,” he added.
Having announced her planned retirement from directing as early as 2018, direk Cathy told fans she wanted more time to focus on her family.
“I just want to give time to my kids. I have served 25 years of my life sa show business. It’s time to give it to my children,” she said.
