During the 2022 Awit Awards night last November 23, singer KZ Tandingan shared why she had to walk the red carpet alone for the event.

“Sayang nga wala siya ngayon kasi may trabaho siya. Nangarag siya so sa work muna siya,” she said, referring to husband TJ Monterde.

The couple’s songs for each other—“Dodong” and “Inday”—were both nominated for awards, but it was KZ’s collaboration with folk pop group Ben&Ben that won her a Best World Music Recording and Best Collaboration Performance award. She also took home the Best Performance by a Female Recording Artist award for her song “11:59.”

KZ also revealed her plans for next year after celebrating a decade in showbiz this year. “There are New songs for me because I am celebrating my 10th year in the industry this year 2022. So in 2023, bagong chapter na naman ng career ko and there are going to be more songs coming out and there are also a lot of collaborations. I also get to write songs for other artists as well,” she said.

After getting married to fellow singer TJ Monterde in late 2020, the 30-year-old artist shared what she learned about herself now that she has a spouse.

“Na-discover ko na kaya ko naman pala na i-share yung responsibility with another person. Kasi ako, I’m the type of person na kung kaya ko gawin lahat, gagawin ko lahat. And then when I became a wife, I realized na there’s another person I could share—hindi nga lang burden but everything—with.

“So parang yun yung na-discover ko. Kaya ko naman pala. Na it’s not the end of the world for me if I try to share responsbility with another person. So puwede naman pala. So mas relaxed ako ngayon (laughs). I think I have matured kahit papaano. Because I’m not only thinking about myself. I’m putting my husband on top of my heirarchy of priorities now. So parang medyo natulungan talaga ako nun na maging mature as a person overall,” she explained.

KZ also admitted she and TJ want to enjoy being a couple first before expanding their family.

“It has always been there, yung option na yun. But for now, my husband and I have decided to really enjoy our time together because we got married in the middle of the pandemic. So we never got to do a proper honeymoon yet. Yung lahat ng travels namin after we got married, it’s always been for a gig tapos mag-e-extend ng konti just so we could spend time together. So wala pa talaga yung traval just to travel. So una, gusto talaga namin muna siya sulitin yung time namin together kasi once you have a kid it changes everything,” she admitted.
