Vickie Rushton has added “reservist” to her growing list of titles as she announced on Monday, October 31, that she is now part of the Philippine Naval Reserve Force.

From being crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas International in 2011 to finishing first runner-up in Binibining Pilipinas in 2018, Vickie earned a new title after completing her training course for the Philippine Navy – HM2 Vickie Marie Milagrosa S Rushton, PN (Res).

On Instagram, Vickie described her journey as an army reservist as “by far the highest and most meaningful achievement” of hers.

“I know, for sure, that it is always easier said than done but what is worth doing to have a meaningful and purposeful life is inevitably challenging. This is waaay out of my comfort zone. I have discovered many things about myself and one of which is my strength,” she wrote.

“I’ve always believed that there was something bigger and greater for me. After some closed doors, I’ve been contemplating on what to do next. I think we are all seeking the same thing - our life’s purpose,” she said. “This is by far the highest and most meaningful achievement I received in my life. Honestly, I just wanted to work with different organizations where I can help and serve but who would have thought that I will be a full-fledged Philippine Navy Reservist?”

She went on to thank the Lord, the Naval Reserve Command, batchmates, family, and husband Jason Abalos for their support.

“To my husband, @thejasonabalos, thank you for allowing me to join. It’s nice to share this journey with you. Kahit magkaiba tayo ng class, happy ako na sabay tayo nag-graduate,” said Vickie, suggesting that Jason took the course with her and is now a reservist as well.

“Thank you for supporting me and for encouraging me. Nakaya ko ang lahat ng ‘to dahil sa tiwala mo na kaya ko din gawin ‘to. I love you, Baba!”
