After a decade of enjoying her passions as a singer-songwriter and YouTube content creator, Renee Dominique shared how it felt when she was given an offer by the PIE channel to become one of its hosts.

“Like a lot of people here, ito yung first hosting venture ko. This is something that I’ve always wanted to do. But I’m originally a singer and I’ve been on YouTube for almost 10 years so that’s my bread and butter kumbaga. But I’m very, very grateful to PIE for recognizing something in me that maybe I could be a talk show host. And I’m very, very honored to be able to show another side of me, maybe an advice giving side. But also a more kulit side. People know me more as someone who sings on YouTube so it’s a really, really good way to also show people another side of me and to grow a bigger family,” she said.

Last month, Renee also experienced another first as she gave her first ever TED talk at the St. Jude Catholic School in Manila.

“So I recently had the privilege to be a TED speaker alongside a lot of music people and Mr. Chel Diokno also so that was such a privilege. I’m really honored. One thing that I feel like could be a takeaway from my talk, and this is something that I say all the time, is to pursue your passion because you love what you do and not because you’re in pursuit of fame and followers. Because I feel like that is something that’s very superficial. That won’t make you last a long time.

“At the end of it all, you do something because you love to do it. So I think that’s something that I stand for in the 10 years that I’ve been doing YouTube. For me it was all about my love for music. Not about the followers or the views or all of that stuff. And especially now with social media growing, it’s so easy to be consumed by the numbers, by how you perform. But at the end of it all, do you really like what you do? And can you say na kahit walang nanunuod sa ‘yo  is that what you love doing? And I think that’s one thing that I always will stand by.”

Even if it took her longer to receive a break in mainstream media, Renee explained why she has no regrets about the route she chose to take.

“Lagi ko din sinasabi sa show namin na PIE Night Long na huwag tumingin sa kabilang bakod. Focus on your own journey because you will have your own time and that’s something that I think is my own testimony in my life na talagang it’s not about speed, but it’s really just about sailing through the journey and learning from that. Because that’s what will mold your character and character is very, very important especially in this industry,” she added.
