Philippine R&B royalty Kyla recently collaborated with American singer-songwriter Brian McKnight Jr. for the song “Cuz of You (COY)” which was released on Tarsier Records’ official YouTube page. The music video has over 75,000 views as of this writing.
This was the first time that Kyla collaborated with the American singer-songwriter, although she has already previously worked with latter’s father.
Kyla shared how excited she was in recording this song. She added that upon hearing the song, she was already hooked.
“The first time I heard the song, I fell in love with it right away. It’s like a theme song for movies, that’s how it felt. It’s almost enchanting listening to the song,” she shared.
Brian revealed that his inspiration behind the song was from his previous relationship when he was 18 years old. The American singer-songwriter added that this was already in his music vault for years and he just knew that Kyla would be the perfect singer to collaborate on the song.
“I actually wrote this song around the same time that I wrote ‘Marry Your Daughter.’ It’s really interesting because I was dating someone at the time when the 18-year-old me thought that I was with someone who I can be with for a long time. The lyrics of the song are as true as they can be,” he revealed.
The music video features Beach Bros actor Brent Manalo and ex-Pinoy Big Brother housemate Anji Salvacion. The two shared how excited they were to work with each other even though they felt shy at first.
Dubbed as PH’s Queen of R&B, Kyla is a multi-awarded singer-songwriter known for hits such as “Hanggang Ngayon,” “On The Wings of Love,” “Beautiful Days,” “Without You,” and many more.
