Asia’s Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan marked her first decade in the entertainment industry last Sunday, October 16, 2022, on the ASAP Natin ‘To stage.
She began her career in 2012 when she was hailed as the first winner of the reality talent show The X Factor Philippines. She was also recognized as ‘Best New Artist’ by Awit Awards in the same year.
KZ continued to wow audiences both here and abroad, even taking part in popular singing competition Singer 18 where she performed alongside winner and international artist Jessie J. She is also one of the members of DIVAS, a group she formed with fellow female singers Yeng Constantino, Kyla, and Angeline Quinto.
For her tenth year celebration, KZ serenaded the audience with some of her hit songs such as “Marupok” and “Imposible”. Joining her were fellow divas Kyla and Angeline. Also with her were fellow artists Janine Berdin, Erik Santos, Jeremy G, and Elha Nympha. Not to miss out on this milestone, KZ was also joined onstage by her husband, TJ Monteverde, as they sweetly sang “Dodong”.
Asked what memory that stood out for her in her ten years in the industry, she recalled a time with Concert King Martin Nievera himself.
“Ang pinakauna ko pong naiiisip ay inampon po kami ni Martin Nievera sa bahay niya. Hinding hindi ko po makakalimutan ‘yun,” KZ shared. “Hindi po siguro ako aabot ng ten years kung hindi ako tinulungan ni Martin Nievera at ng buong pamilya niya from the very beginning.”
Both KZ and Martin couldn’t help but get teary-eyed as they recalled their decade of friendship.
“I was a stranger na pinatira niya sa bahay niya. And that is very rare for someone in his stature to do,” said KZ. “So sobra po akong thankful.”
“It’s not just only my tenth anniversary but it’s our tenth anniversary as a family,” KZ said to who she lovingly refers to as “Dad”.
Martin also gave words of pride to his “adopted daughter”.
“As your adopted father, I just want you to know how proud I am of you,” Martin praised KZ. “You’ve done so much in so little time and we’re just so proud of you.”
Martin also addressed KZ’s life partner, TJ. “We’re so proud that you’ve found not just the talent in this woman, but the heart and soul that you now share.”
Of course, TJ also had his own message for his wife.
“Ibang klase,” TJ praised KZ. “Hindi lahat may ganyang ten years.”
TJ admitted that had been thinking hard about what message to say to her. He revealed that star as she was, KZ still has a lot of insecurities.
“Babe, even though you feel small, a lot of people look up to you. We look up to you. I look up to you," reassured TJ. “Congratulations at marami ka pang maaabot. Kakasimula pa lang.”
KZ only had words of gratitude for all who have supported her through the years.
“Sobra lang po talaga akong thankful. I want to thank everybody who’s been there from the beginning,” KZ said. “Thank you for making my dreams come true. For making me who I am.”
