Fresh from her trip to the UK last month, actress Iza Calzado is back in the country and excited to promote her latest series K-Love for which she had already wrapped up taping before announcing her pregnancy last August. The 40-year-old actress shared an update on her condition during Viu Philippines’ press conference for the show last October 8 in Makati City.
“It’s been a relatively smooth pregnancy but there was a major challenge which I’ll share next time. But so far it’s been a breeze. I didn’t really get morning sickness, I’ve been able to work out. I’m so grateful. I’m enjoying it. It really came at a perfect time because even if it was unplanned, I’ve been ready for it pala. So I’m due early next year,” she shared.
Last seen in the fantasy series Darna, Iza explained why she accepted the role of Tish, one of five friends who are K-drama enthusiasts from different walks of life in the series.
“You always base it naman sa text. Hindi ka o-oo kung hindi mo pa nababasa yung material di ba? So they sent the pilot and when they did, ang swabe the dialogue, there’s kilig, well-written. Of course you add to that that there’s a director from L.A, New York, director of Harry Styles and Beyonce. All of these things. But it’s really icing on the cake when you like the material. That’s really the number one thing. Then you consider if you can see yourself playing the role. And I was very grateful for the trust that they gave me and then when I heard who the final people were in the cast, the more that I became comfortable and excited working on the project,” she explained.
As she prepares to give birth early next year, Iza admitted she has no plans of stepping back from doing work just yet. “I’m stepping into the greatest role yet. So I’m preparing for that. As always, I’m a crammer (laughs). Ask me if I’ve read any baby books, not yet. But it has slowed down. I just came from a trip and I’m not on set. Although I have been talking to my manager and said, ‘If there’s a cameo I can do, I want to see myself on screen as the pregnant woman.’ Because when else? Totoo ha. Yung hindi prosthetics,” she said.
The K-Love star admitted she does have one condition when it comes to accepting projects during her pregnancy. “But siyempre not heavy drama. There are things that I’m choosing not to do because I don’t want that kind of energy for the child. So it’s going to be a different chapter I guess but also the same. I’m actually very excited to learn a lot from this because I feel that it can only enhance me as an actor. And I’m pretty sure there are work opportunities that maybe were just kind of waiting for me before and now that I’m a mother baka it will open up a new avenue or a new set of job opportunities for me or life opportunities for me. So let’s see. I’ll just let it unfold and I’m excited,” she added.
