Yam Concepcion said her first major starring role in a teleserye has been a big labor of love for her. In Init Sa Magdamag, she plays the role of congresswoman Rita Alvarez.

At saka never ko pa nagawa yung ganitong character. So medyo mahirap din yun.

“And as much as possible you really want it from the heart, you want it real, alam mo yun. And of course, sometimes you’re just human, napapagod ka din and you have to no choice but to do your job and magugulat ka na lang tiwala sa sarili and dasal, tulungan sa set, yung trust ng director very important. Without that it won’t work. I’m very happy that it all worked out,” she said.

Aside from the explosive love triangle in the series, another controversial issue that the show tackles is domestic abuse that her character suffers from her husband played by JM De Guzman. “I think napakatapang nung show namin kaya talagang I’m very grateful na naging parte ako ng ganitong klaseng teleserye. Kasi na-e-empower yung mga kababaihan din. And it’s nice also kasi yung mga battered wife, parang I’m in no position to even speak because never ko yan naranasan. Kasi sila they’re actually really going through it in real life. Napakasakit, ang hirap nun pero you just really have to stand up for yourself. Know when it’s right to stand up. Know your worth as a woman and as a person,” she explains.

With the last few episodes of the show promising more exciting scenes, Yam shared which scene struck her as the most memorable after doing the lock-in taping for the show earlier this year.

So that was special for me.

Alam mo shinoot namin yun sa last day ng taping yung eksena na yun. Tapos hindi ko makakalimutan yung waterfalls scene with Gerald (Anderson). Very iconic lang. Maraming scenes pero yan alng yung naisip ko ngayon,” she said.

When asked to share what was the biggest takeaway she got from playing her role. “Siguro yung babaunin ko kay Rita yung fight for the marriage and then be a good wife, love your husband and just enjoy the ride,” Yam added.
