Playing the role of a lesbian named Ivy who is in a long-term relationship in the new sex comedy film 69+1, Maui Taylor recalled her first reaction after being handpicked for her role by director Darryl Yap.
“Nung nabasa ko yung script siyempre ang una kong hinanap yung mga sexy na parts (laughs). But then again, as you all know I’ve done a lot of films na sexy so the sexy parts of the film were kumbaga parang nothing new to me. It was more of the story that I got attracted to. So nung nabasa ko siya, ang ganda nung script and at the same time actually hindi ko nababasa yung script naka-oo na ako kay direk Darryl eh (laughs),” she said.
In 69+1, Maui and her partner (played by Rose Van Ginkel) propose a polyamorous relationship with Janno Gibbs for a year in order to get over the seven-year itch in their relationship. In real life, the married mother of two said she would never consider that kind of situation. She counts two long scenes in the film as the big acting challenges for her.
“It’s a no-no for me. Hindi ako experimental. Hindi ko rin siguro kaya na merong kaming plus one. Unang una selosa akong tao eh so hindi mag-wo-work yun for me. So it’s a big no. Ang pagiging challenge ko dito is yung pagiging fluid namin ng seven at nine minutes (laughs). Tapos hindi ka puwedeng magkamali. Isang beses ka lang ipa-prompt ni direk Darryl so kung hindi ka attentive, good luck sa ‘yo (laughs). Naalala ko pang first scene of the day yun. Nagpaalam pa ako, ‘Direk, puwede ba ako uminom ng isang can ng beer, papayagan niyo ba ako?’ Buti na lang pinayagan ako kasi na-se-stress na talaga ako (laughs). Yun ang challenge,” she shared.
Having been in a steady relationship with her partner and father of her two sons for many years already, Maui admitted she has experienced the seven-year itch.
“Nadaanan ko na yan eh. Not just on the seventh year. They always say it’s the third year, the seventh year and the ninth year. Napagdaanan ko na yan. Pagdating mo sa point na yun it’s a make it or break it thing eh. If you want to make it, then I guess you have to settle your issues and differences. Kung nawalan man kayo ng trust sa isa’t isa kailangan niyo ibalik yun. Kung nawalan kayo ng love at respect, nasa inyo na rin yun kung ibabalik niyo yun. So it’s basically about talking,” she said.
During the mediacon for her latest Vivamax project, Maui shared the secret she learned on how to help keep a relationship strong. “I’ve talked to a couple who has been together for more than 20 years and actually hindi sila kasal ha. Sabi ko what’s the secret? Paano niyo nagagawa yun? Ang sagot sa akin nung girl is, she makes sure that every time the guy comes home parang pa rin silang bagong magjowa, you know she’s dressed, she’s made up. Kasi malaking factor daw yun sa mga guys,” she added.
