After more than a year on hiatus, the fashion world's “Oscar Night” is back with a bang. On Monday, September 13 (US Time), dozens of Hollywood stars returned to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to celebrate the opening of the two-part 2021 Met Gala, an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Met's Costume Institute. And this year, the theme is "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion", or "American Independence", which celebrates the Costume Institute’s 75th anniversary and explores a modern vocabulary of American fashion.
As expected, many A-listers graced the famous cream-colored carpet with lavish, head-turning looks. Among them were Grammy-winning artist Billie Eilish, reality star Kim Kardashian, rapper Lil Nas X, Korean superstar CL, singer Normani, former supermodel Iman and supermodels Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner, actress Zoe Kravitz, Megan Fox, BLACKPINK’s Rosé, and actor Timothee Chalamet.

Filipino-American singer Olivia Rodrigo was also spotted at the party, wearing an all-black sheer lace jumpsuit by Yves Saint Laurent. It was the first time the "driver's license" singer attended the Met Gala.
Meanwhile, the likes of Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Kylie Jenner, Nicki Minaj, Zendaya, Dua Lipa, and Blake Lively were no-shows at the star-studded event. In a tweet, Nicki said she decided to skip the Met Gala because of its requirement that attendees get vaccinated against COVID-19. For her part, Kylie, who is currently pregnant with her second child, confirmed that she would not be attending the celebration on Instagram. Meanwhile, Zendaya said she wouldn't be able to go because of prior film commitments.
