After emerging as grand winner in the second season of Tawag ng Tanghalan in 2018, singer Janine Berdin said she has surpassed whatever dreams she had before joining the iconic singing competition.
“To tell you honestly, lagi ko sinasabi na hindi ako makapaniwala na darating ako sa ganito and I really mean that kasi yung goal ko talaga ever since is makatapak lang sa Tawag ng Tanghalan stage because that’s a huge opportunity to perform for icons and yung goal na yun, yun lang ang iniisip ko kasi pag nagawa ko na yun puwede na ako makakanta sa Cebu, sa mga restaurants, ganun. And when I won the title, sabi ko, ‘Okay na ako. Wala na akong hihingiin pang iba!’ But because of the help of itong mga icons and all the people who surrounded me with advice, guidance from my Showtime and Tawag ng Tanghalan family, nagawa ko lahat ng hindi ko man lang na-dream. I didn’t even think of dreaming for it kasi hindi ko talaga alam na maaabot ko. Kaya it’s all thanks to Tawag ng Tanghalan. And it’s definitely more than mission accomplished para sa akin,” she shared during the Tawag ng Tanghalan: Ang Huling Tapatan mediacon last September 13.
Now that she has transformed from being a contestant to becoming a singer in showbiz, Janine said that she has faced a different set of challenges as a celebrity singer as compared to just being judged by the hurados during her stint on TNT.
“I think sobrang magkaiba kasi performing on Tawag ng Tanghalan to be judged by our esteemed judges, wala akong iniisip na goal na kailangan ko i-please talaga sila because I was just showing who I really was. Ini-introduce ko lang kung paano talaga ako kumakanta and if the judges liked it then that’s amazing, ganun. Yan talaga yung goal ko dati. So hindi siya naging pressure sa akin datin. Kaya mas mahirap yung jinu-judge ako ng public ngayon kasi lahat ng galaw ko, sometimes even my personal life. That’s the big catch when you join into the industry. So mas mahirap ngayon na yung public ang nag-ju-judge sa atin.”
With the ongoing pandemic, the 19-year-old Tawag ng Tanghalan alumni revealed what has been keeping her inspired and productive in the past year.
“What really inspires me siyempre mainly yung passion ko for singing and for making music and marami pa akong gustong gawin like sharing my music so yun yung main na nag-i-inspire sa akin na even if so many things are going on na parang napapatanong na ako na, ‘Oh my gosh, why do I continue doing all of this?’ ganun. Bumabalik ako sa passion ko sa music ko. Tapos andun din yung people who believe in me. Of course given na yung family ko, yung friends ko, and my supporters, everyone who’s believed in me, yung family ko in showbiz, my co-workers, lahat ng producers ng shows na pinapa-perform ako. Parang grabe, yun yung nagpapa-inspire talaga sa akin. It’s what keeps me going. Mainly, music lang talaga and people who believe in me. Kasi it’s a really hard time and the only thing that will fuel us sa time na ganito is believing in each other,” she shared.
When asked to share advice for the top eight finalists competing in the TNT grand finals this Saturday, September 18, Janine gave a simple tip.
“Siguro yung advice ko talaga is mahalin niyo yung ginagawa niyo. Kasi if you love what you’re doing, kahit anong mangyari you’ll enjoy doing it.”
