With the release of her first solo film The Housemaid, Kylie Verzosa said she feels blessed to be surrounded by an ensemble cast of veteran actors like Albert Martinez, Jaclyn Jose, and Alma Moreno.
“Sobrang grateful ko and sobrang happy ako and I couldn’t have asked for a better supporting cast. I just feel so grateful to be put beside them in this movie. So sobra yung pagpapasalamat ko kay tito Albert, kay Ms. Jaclyn, kay Louise (Delos Reyes), kay Elia (Ilano) yung magaling namin na bata and kay Ms. Alma Moreno kasi just by watching them ang dami ko ng matututunan sa kanila. Just by observing them, the way they prepare before each scene, ganyan. Each actor kasi may different way tayo ng preparation before so magadang observation lang yun sa kanila,” she said.
Kylie said she learned a lot about acting after sharing the same set with previous Cannes Film Festival Best Actress winner Jaclyn Jose.
“With Ms. Jaclyn prangka talaga siya. Kung hindi ka magaling sasabihin talaga niya gawin mo ‘to, galawin mo ‘to, ganyan. Eh ako kasi very observant ako so rehearsal process may isang time na tinitingnan ko lang talaga siya. Ganun ako eh. that’s when I get information. Sabi niya, ‘Huy, wag mo ako tingnan! Galaw ka naman.’ Pero kapag action dun na ako gagalaw. So yun yung mga small instance na natututo ako sa kanya. Kapag mga small scenes like that and kapag nagchichika naman kami in-between scenes, just by observing her, yung the way she prepares, yung nakikita niya lahat, find your light, ganyan. So yun yung mga iba ibang ways na sobrang na-admire ko talaga siya. Every time na we’re at a scene together parang I can’t believe I’m here. So sobrang happy lang ako at sobrang grateful ako sa buong cast,” she said.
As for Albert Martinez who plays her employer-turned-lover in the film, Kylie is grateful for his guidance even when they were doing their sensual scenes together.
“Sobrang maalaga talaga si Albert and sobrang supportive niya sa mga scenes. Alam mo yung nakikita niya ako na nag-da-doubt na ako sa sarili ko, ganyan, sasabihin niya, ‘Good job, good job.’ Kasi as an actor hinahanap mo din konti yung affirmation na yun sa director mo, sa mga co-actor mo. Tapos si tito Albert yung unang unang magsasabi na good job, ganyan. Si Ms. Jaclyn (Jose) naman very quiet lang siya pero at the same time sasabihin niya rin if you did a good job sa role mo or not. So yun yung support na nagawa nila for me. They were very supportive all throughout the film,” she explained.
Aside from learning from her senior co-stars, Kylie saidher scenes with them were also the most challenging ones for her to do.
“Siguro yung pinakamahirap para sa akin lahat ng scenes ko with Ms. Jaclyn and tito Albert. Kasi yung kay Ms. Jaclyn kailangan lagi akong handa. Hindi ako puwede mag-take two, ganyan (laughs). So puwede siya pero ako hindi talaga ako puwede. Pero with that came yung kaba sa sarili ko na ito na, I need to prepare more for my scenes. Yung kay tito Albert naman yes it was challenging and it was difficult pero napapag-usapan kasi namin yun. Very choreographed lahat para looks real, sensual, and pleasing at the same time,” she added.
The Housemaid is now available for streaming on Vivamax. Starring Kylie Verzosa, Albert Martinez, Jaclyn Jose, Lousie Delos Reyes, and Alma Moreno. Directed by Roman Perez.
