After being offered to direct the Philippine remake of the 2010 South Korean film The Housemaid in 2019, director Roman Perez said he did not think twice about accepting the project.

“Natanggap ko ‘to pre-pandemic pa. Nasa art house siya pero mainstream-ish siya. May ganun siyang texture eh. May ganun siyang direction. Kaya panghihinayangan mong hindi tanggapin. Nung binasa ko yung script, akin na ‘to. Hiningi ko na talaga. Hindi ko na talaga pinalagpas. Wala nang offer offer, kinuha ko na agad,” he shared during The Housemaid mediacon.

As the latest film to be part of Vivamax’s lineup starting this month, direk Roman said that the company already has a lot of South Korean content lined up to be remade in the future starting with The Housemaid.

“Bago pa mag-pandemic nabili ng Viva maraming Korean films. Marami  pang darating. Bakit tayo bumibili? Healthy yun,” he explained.

Compared to the Korean version, direk Roman said that even though they were loyal to the original storyline, his film will still be uniquely Pinoy.

May mahirap, may middle class, may sobrang yaman at yung pinakamahirap yun yung magiging alipin. May ganun talaga tayo. Sa Korea wala ngayong ganun,” he explains.

The Housemaid, a Vivamax Original movie will be available for streaming exclusively on Vivamax  starting September 10. Starring Kylie Verzosa, Albert Martinez, Jaclyn Jose, Louise Delos Reyes, and Alma Moreno.
