With the auditions for Pinoy Big Brother Season 10 now open for the entire month of September, PBB head director Lauren Dyogi revealed that the recent rumors surrounding the supposed demolition of the PBB house in Quezon City was meant to drum up the hype for the show’s brand new season called Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity Season 10.
“That was a marketing gimmick talaga to be honest. Pinag-isipan naman yan ng how do we catch the attention again of the viewers sa dami ng nangyayari. Alam mo naman ngayon ang dami daming distraction from what’s happening sa society to globally. So how do you make the announcement interesting. So yun ang naisip ng grupo na it seemed like they would demolish the house but actually we were just preparing the house for the new season. Because we were announcing that it was the 10th regular season. So naging effective naman siya and nagtuon ulit ang pansin ulit PBB and we’re happy that we’re now getting it rolling already,” he said.
With the previous season of PBB ending just last March, direk Lauren said the planning for season 10 came as a welcome surprise for their PBB family which includes longtime hosts Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzalez, and Robi Domingo.
“During this time of pandemic it’s so hard to plan anything. But whatever blessings, challenges come our way, we always grab the opportunity of having another season of PBB.
“Of course it’s most welcome to us sa grupong ito and at the same time I’m sure yung sambayanan din naman excited to have another season of Pinoy Big Brother. So we knew PBB Connect was not the last season. We didn’t know exactly when would be the next season but a blessing kumatok sa amin kung puwede magkaroon ulit ng isang season in partnership with Kumu. So we grabbed it and we said of course and excited. Ang una kong minensahe niyan yung mga host.
“Meron kaming group chat and mini-message ko na sila. Siyempre lahat excited. Inunahan ko na sila na ‘Oy confidential pa ito ha pero baka lang, baka matuloy,’” he recalled.
With more than 150,000 people auditioning virtually in the show’s last season, direk Lauren shared his tip to those who want their videos to stand out and be noticed by PBB.
“For the past 16 years that’s always been a question to us. Wala siyang specific criteria. We base our choices on the personality and the character. Of course as much as possible we want to see yung natural na tao kasi some will be performing and acting it out, di ba hindi namin nakikita yung real personality mo pag ganun. Of course some of them are really creative so we appreciate the creativity. But more importantly, we need to know your personality in one minute.
“Ngayon since video lang, we pick up different cues. The way you talk, the way you place yourself, ano background mo. Marami namang visual cues na nagagamit din namin when we select our potential housemates,” he said.
Contrary to the notion that being attractive is the most important factor to joining reality shows, direk Lauren said the quality they value the most are interesting personalities.
“May mga tao kasing bagay sa PBB. Meron talagang personality na pang-reality show, personality na masarap panuorin. Kahit naman sa mga barkada, magkakaibigan, may mga tao talaga na gusto natin tumitimon, sila yung madalas na we listen to, so yung mga ganung klaseng personality yung napupunta sa PBB. But then again, casting doesn’t mean everybody is alpha. Naghahalo din naman kami nung may natututunan, yung may magandang kuwento,” he added.
ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Kumunity Season 10 begins its search for new housemates. To audition, hopefuls (20 to 40 years old) just need to download the Kumu app, create an account, and upload a 1-minute Kumu clip where he or she will introduce oneself and say why he or she is deserving to become a housemate, and use the hashtag “PBBKumuAdults.”
