Apart from entertaining Filipinos through acting on television and the big screen, several Kapamilya celebrities have made a lifelong commitment of serving the nation by signing up as reservists for the Philippine Air Force and Philippine Coast Guard.

Among them are Arci Muñoz, JM de Guzman, and Ejay Falcon who serve as reservists for the Philippine Air Force and Gerald Anderson who is a reservist for the Philippine Coast Guard.

In a Star Magic Lounge feature, Arci said she became a reservist to inspire Filipinos – regardless of gender – to serve the nation.

One of the tasks of a reservist are to provide relief to victims of calamities, adding that it doesn’t necessarily mean reservists should go to war.

Tinawag tayong reservist, ibig sabihin tayo ay on call,” Arci explained.

She went on by saying reservists should be ready for whatever the country will face in the future.

Ejay Falcon, on the other hand, shared his experience while training as a reservist.

“Nagigising kami siguro ng 4 am or 5 am. Tinuruan din kami mag-firing, tamang pagputok.” he said.

“Part of our training, hindi kami naliligo. Ang sarap ng feeling na you’re there. You’re in the mountains, you have no one to depend on and parang bahala ka sa buhay mo. Pero still, you have to defend everybody around you. “Very challenging but at the same time, very humbling,” she added.

Meanwhile, JM de Guzman said it is important to note that being a reservist should be voluntary and not be forced on anyone.

“Pakiramdam ko, ‘yung pagiging isang reservist is synonymous to voluntary. And if you appreciate kung ano ang binibigay sa iyo ng Diyos, you count your blessings, you give back sa nangangailangan. And ito ang pinaka perfect na support na iyong makukuha if you want to give back and to help our people and show our appreciation sa grasya ng Diyos sa atin,” he said.

Gerald Anderson, for his part, said he believes being a reservist creates an impact among young individuals.

We’re not the biggest, we’re not the richest. Marami din tayong mga hindi maganda. Isa lang bansa natin. Ito lang ang bansa nating lahat eh. Kailangan nating protektahan kailangan natin ‘tong alagaan. ‘Yun ang gusto nating mensaheng iparating sa tao,” he said.
