Ever since they got married in 1984, singer Gary Valenciano and wife Angeli Pangilinan have enjoyed a happy family life along with their three children Paolo, Gabriel, and Kiana whom they raised in their home in Antipolo City. Last August 6, the couple celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary with Angeli sharing a look back on all their years together.

In her Instagram post, Angeli wrote, “37 years is a long time to be married. Today when I count my blessings, I thank God for my family and my husband Gary. I’ve learned the basic values like patience, perseverance, self-control, & peace! In 1984, 7 months pregnant & totally bashed by media (imagine if there was social media then), I married Gary in Canlubang, thanks to the Yulo family. The year after we had our church wedding in Villa Escudero thanks to our Ninong Ado.

“Against all odds & predictions, Gary and I fought for our ‘controversial’ relationship as I was 6 years older than him. How many times did I want to up and leave him because I literally married a very young man! He was 20! I was 25 turning 26! I cannot praise the Lord enough for His faithfulness, unwavering love and provision and protective mantle over my husband’s and my life.”

In the same post, Angeli shared how she and Gary weathered the ups and downs in their marriage.

“With marriage comes many happy times but also seasons of heartache, arguments, & battles that can create strains on the relationship. I want to share a takeaway for all young (or even old haha) couples out there. When you make a vow with your partner, you may eventually want to break it and you end up thinking you won’t be able to make it. But remember the wedding lines were ‘for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness or in health ... till death do us part.’

“I am sure most of you have experienced that the challenges, struggles & trials are real. But remember God said that He will never leave us nor forsake us. We can do all things through Him who strengthens us. And we must learn to love & listen unconditionally, selflessly forgiving all the time (even if you want to make him disappear sometimes), submitting to one another, & most important, earnestly reading His Word. Women tend to mother their men. We must learn to be less prescriptive & more open to understanding our husband’s needs first. With these thoughts I greet my husband Gary a happy anniversary & happy birthday !!! I love you hon !  #notetoself,” she wrote.
