While she did not get the much-coveted gold medal in the Olympics, Nesthy Petecio still made the entire Philippines proud for her performance which earned her a silver medal.
Having fought at the Women’s Featherweight Final at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday, August 3, Nesthy came face-to face-with Japan’s Sena Irie. The two had faced each other four times since 2019, with Irie beating the Philippine representative three times.
Nesthy and Sena’s fight at the Tokyo Olympics was a close one, but the latter still won the competition through unanimous decision.
Following her win, Davao-based businessman Andrew Tan offered a 10M fully-furnished condo for Nesthy.
Meanwhile, Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz left a message of support for Nesthy in a video posted on Facebook.
“Hi, Nesthy! Congratulations, I know na ginawa mo lahat and silver medal, additional medal 'yun sa atin. Pero alam mo, para sa puso ko at sa puso ng bawat Pilipino, ikaw ang panalo. Congratulations and thank you for bringing pride and honor sa ating bansa,” she said.
Admitting she felt emotional over Nesthy’s win, she said: “Alam mo kanina, sasabihin ko na, na parang umiiyak ako habang pinapanood ko kasi nga, grabe, intense ang laban niyo and thank you. Thank you for fighting for the Philippines.”
