After her film Babae at Baril joined the New York Asian Film Festival last year, Janine Gutierrez said it was a dream come true for her to win an award for her second film entry Dito at Doon to the international film event. The actress gave a virtual acceptance speech posted on the film festival’s official Instagram account.
In the video, Janine said, “This means so much to me. I’ve always wanted to visit you guys in New York and attend the festival in person. So this recognition and you sending this (trophy) all the way to Manila is something I’m so, so grateful for. Thank you for supporting Filipino artists and Filipino films and making sure our stories are out there on the international stage. Thank you to everyone who has seen the film and supported we’re so happy to share this award with you. I hope this serves as a reminder you are not alone and we’re all in this together and to the NYAFF I hope in the future we can meet in person. Thank you all again. I hope you all stay safe!”
On her Instagram account, Janine thanked the award-giving body again as well as all those behind the film like TBA Studio and her Dito at Doon co-stars JC Santos, Victor Anastacio, Yesh Burce, and director JP Habac.
“Happy girl, thank you so much to the @newyorkasianfilmfestival for the Rising Star Award so grateful for your support of Filipino films and creatives, for sharing your platform and getting our stories out into the world. this award is especially for everyone who has supported Filipino films despite cinemas being closed for a year and a half now. Hindi madali pero andito ka. Sa mga bumibili ng ticket online, sumusuporta sa mga streaming sites at naglalaan ng oras para sa mga virtual premiere - salamat. Thank you for supporting the industry and everyone who works in it. You mean everything to us. Thank you for coming with us on this journey. looking forward to sharing Dito at Doon / Here and There with more of you as we hit @netflix worldwide on September 2!! See you ther
“Lastly, I feel like part of this recognition is also because Babae at Baril was part of the #NYAFF last year. Forever grateful to team Babae
In Dito at Doon, Janine plays the role of new graduate Len who has never had a romantic relationship until she finds an unexpected connection online with delivery rider Caloy (played by JC Santos). The rom-com chronicles their love story which happens in the middle of a pandemic.
“Our little lockdown film is so special to me at mas special pa na maraming naka-relate kay Len at Caloy at sa walang sawang ECQ. As we kept saying nung press days namin for the film, sana magsilbi itong paalala na kung ano pa man ang pinagdadaanan mo, hindi ka nag-iisa,” Janine wrote in her post.
