Ahead of the release of her extended play album Signature, singer Morissette took to social media to pay tribute to her fiancé and longtime collaborator Dave Lamar.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Morissette thanked Dave for being her motivation and source of inspiration during a challenging time in her life due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"In about 12 hours, #MorissetteSignatureEP finally drops to the world!!! just like when we released 'Love You Still' and 'Phoenix'. I'm so nervous yet excited to finally share the rest of the tracks with you all along with everything that comes with it. Songwriting and producing is still very new to me but if it weren't for our small yet passionate team who's been helping me throughout this whole process, we wouldn't be here today," Morissette began.
She went on to share how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected her, particularly her livelihood.
"Not a lot of you know that right before 2020 and the pandemic, my calendar was supposedly booked already with shows and events locally and abroad, shooting for a movie, and even my theatre comeback... but then it happened and the whole world shut down, affecting so many lives and livelihoods including mine," she said.
Morissette said it was her fiancé who encouraged her to carry on with her life and just continue working on her craft.
"I just wanna share the love, appreciation, and respect I have for @davejlamar who literally is my 'light in the tunnel' especially in the last couple of years. If it weren't for him continuously encouraging and guiding me, I would've probably just waited for the 'normal' to come back or maybe even gave in to all the voices and anxiety I was also experiencing during the lockdown. But he motivated me to use this season to grow more into my craft. I acknowledged that there were a lot of arguments and disagreements (mostly because I was stubborn and impatient with actually learning the production process, trying to be better now though), but definitely kept me grounded," she said.
To end her post, Morissette said she's thrilled to be welcoming a new chapter in her career with her new EP alongside Dave, "her OG and partner for life."
"These first 5 songs we're finally sharing with everyone are dear to us 'cause they're very personal. It wasn't so hard for me to collaborate with him in jotting these down 'cause of the friendship and trust that was already there for now 10 years, but also because we both have similar stories but different experiences. We came up with these new songs in just the past year and although we're still getting a hang of things, this is really just the beginning; and even if it seems like how we're doing things is putting us back to square one, I am thrilled to be welcoming a new decade in my career with ORIGINALS, and with my OG and partner for life," she said.
She also teased more music and content from her and Dave, who was her batchmate on The Voice of the Philippines in 2013 and to whom she got engaged in September 2020.
Signature is Morissette's very first co-written and produced EP. The record, she previously said, aims to "celebrate all the things that make us unique, to embrace our individuality, and to go out into the world with a newfound sense of confidence and self-respect."
Produced by Underdog Music, Signature is now available to stream on Spotify, Aplle Music, Amazon Music, YouTube, Deezer, and Tidal.
