"It's more of a rocky relationship. 'Di kami magkasundo with many things. But ever since I became a mom now, actually, I have appreciated her more. And even if minsan 'di pa rin kami magkasundo, it's more stable now, our relationship," ani Janella.
"I guess it started not being stable when I was a teenager and I wanted to, you know, explore, have fun. And she was scared of letting go. I'm her only girl, so she was having a hard time accepting that," ani Janella.
"I entered showbiz when I was 14, so when I started meeting different people, parang, 'Oh, some people do this pala. They have different lives pala. They party, ganyan ganyan.' I never went through a party phase, just to be clear. I just wanted to hang out with friends and have fun, and medyo naging strict 'yung mom ko dati. It would reach a point na tatakas ako so she got mad," dagdag pa niya.
"The posting before, that was the time na we weren't really okay. I was living by myself and wala, cut off talaga 'yung communication. [I was] hurt... Nagalit din ako, eh. I was a teenager and I had so much angst in me," pag-amin niya.
Pagbabalik tanaw ng aktres: "I was scared of her so I was scared to tell her. We (Markus) were planning nga to go to the house and tell her in person, but since I was already four months pregnant, I already had checkups before that. So I was going to one of the hospitals here. [But the problem was] chinismis ako.
"But I didn't know that she knew already. She waited for me to tell her. I videocalled her and I said, 'Mama, I have to tell you something.' 'What? You're pregnant?' I was like, 'Oh, how did you know?' She told me na parang, 'Everyone knows na.' As in pokerface lang siya so I was scared as to what she would do. I don't know.
"[But] we became closer and I understood her more on different levels as a mom."
Nang tanungin kung ano ang natutunan niya sa naging alitan nila ng kanyang ina, sabi ni Janella: "No matter how independent you feel you are, lalo na as a teenager... no matter how much you feel like you can do it on your own, I feel like you should always make your parents feel like somehow you still need them. Because as a mom now I understand. Even if you live your own independent life, always remember your parents din. Don't completely cut them off."
