For the first time ever, John Lloyd Cruz opened up about the reason he took a hiatus from showbiz and his decision to make a comeback.
John Lloyd recently sat down with ABS-CBN broadcast journalist Karen Davila for an exclusive interview where he talked about his last four years away from the limelight, among others.
The 38-year-old actor admitted that part of his reason for taking a hiatus from the industry was that he got tired of fighting for the content that he wanted for his audience.
“I guess I got tired of fighting for the content that I want to see on like a more commercial platform, ‘di ba? Kasi I feel like we owe it to them. We owe it to our audiences. ‘Yung we make sure na hindi namin kayo pauulit-ulit,” John Lloyd revealed in the nearly hour-long interview.
He added: “As much as nagma-mature kami or we’re growing as performers, siyempre you want to take your audience with you ‘di ba?”
In the same interview, John Lloyd got candid about his reason for stepping back into the limelight.
“May struggle na it doesn’t feel normal anymore. Na wala, iniwan mo lang doon ‘yung dialogue,” he said.
According to JLC, part of the reason why he wants to make a comeback is because he wants his son to see him working for him.
“Well, don’t get me wrong, ha? Wala namang masama to desire kumita especially ‘pag may lumakaki kang bata. And more than that, gusto ko makita ako ng anak ko na nagtatrabaho,” John Lloyd remarked. “Malaking parte ‘yun ng desisyon ko.”
“Hindi ko alam kung ano ang lamang kasi ‘di ba it’s always a composition. And gusto kong malaman kung ano ‘yung ngayon. ‘Yung kung paano makipag-diskurso ngayon sa sarili mong audience,” he added.
Asked if he misses performing in front of a broad audience, John Lloyd said it’s the collaboration with other artists that he yearns for.
“Maybe not acting or like creating a character per se. Pero, I miss collaborating. Kasi when you’re collaborating, you grow, ‘di ba? And you get to contribute and when you get to contribute parang somehow, okay may nagawa ka out of your free time and free will,” he said.
With many left wondering what kind of John Lloyd Cruz they will be seeing in the future, the 38-year-old actor said, “Nakapaloob pa rin ako sa isang journey and I don’t really take note of the new you or what’s new, what’s old or what’s vital. I can’t say for sure. Gusto ko lang siya mag-unfold on its own. Kung ito na ‘yun, so be it. Ang mas importante, ano ba ang magagawa?”
