Broadway star Lea Salonga took to social media to call for the passage of the Creative Industries Bill.
On her Instagram page, the singer wrote, "From a very young age, this is what I do: I sing. In concert, in a musical, or in a recording studio. This is how I exercise my creativity, as well as how I represent my country. Perhaps now, it's time our country loved us back by passing the Creative Industries Bill."
Lea added that the passage of the bill will be helpful to the challenging journey of artists.
"My own path was paved with its share of uncertainty, sweat and tears, as the artist's road is never an easy one, but we can at least make it less of a hardship for others who are dreaming big, aspiring to reach for the stars," she said.
"Lea Salonga. Singer, actor, concert artist. Be seen. Be heard. Be counted. Create the future now. #thefutureiscreative," Lea added.
The proposed Creative Industries Bill aims to promote and develop the Philippine creative industries.
“What the Bill promises is for a National Creative Industries Development Plan to be put in place that will 1) Help creative industries survive the current crisis; 2) Define and incentivize high potential creative industries; 3) Promote policies both nationally and at a local community level that help raise our capabilities as a world class Creative Nation,” Creative Economy Council of the Philippines Founder and President Paolo Mercado said in an interview with Adobo Magazine.
