Bela Padilla said she feels "no animosity" at all towards her former boyfriend, film producer Neil Arce, and his now-fiancée, fellow actress Angel Locsin.
Bela dated Neil for four years before they parted ways in January 2017.
In September that same year, Angel confirmed she was exclusively dating Neil, who she had been friends with for seven years at that time. The two revealed being an official couple in February 2018, and later announced their engagement in June 2019.
In an interview with G3 San Diego on Monday, July 26, Bela said she, Neil, and Angel are all "open minded" and "mature" enough to stay friends despite their history.
"Neil is very mature, I'm also very mature. Angel... I still consider a friend. Like I feel like if she needs anything from me or I need anything from her, we can still go to each other. Like there’s no animosity at all," she said.
Noting that their world is "very small", Bela said: "There’s no need for me to cut ties if I don’t have to... The showbiz industry in the Philippines is very small. I don’t want to avoid going to a certain building because I might run into someone. I hate that feeling. Why would I stress myself like that?"
According to the Mañanita actress, it takes a certain level of maturity to end a relationship and still be friends with an ex.
“[It also depends on] your personality types," she said. "Like I’m very non-confrontational. I feel like Neil is also non-confrontational. Angel is as well.
"Like we’re also at an age where we don’t need to fight or bicker anymore, and there’s really nothing to fight about. Because the reason why we broke up is because we didn’t like each other that way anymore," she added.
Bela shared that in fact, she often bumps into Angel as they both work for Dreamscape Entertainment a lot. She also recalled being invited to dinner by The General's Daughter actress at one point, after they both won Best Actress at an awards show.
"I won best actress for film and she won best actress for TV. So she asked me if I wanted to have dinner after and Dimples (Romana) was there," she said.
"So parang… alam mo ‘yun, it’s nice that we are open minded enough to be friends," she continued. "Kasi ‘yun nga eh, the world is so small. There’s so much going on, there’s a pandemic going on. It’s just easier to be okay with everybody, and to know that you’re not afraid to run into someone or that you’re hurting someone."
Bela is now happily in a relationship with her non-showbiz boyfriend, Norman Ben Bay, whom she met in December 2017, while filming scenes in St. Gallen, Switzerland for the romance movie Meet Me in St. Gallen.
