After launching the sustainable bag business Organized Chicas earlier this year, Shaina Magdayao said she and business partner Nikki Medina are already planning to expand the business into a lifestyle brand.
“In five months, we are expanding. From a bag line, we’re now a lifestyle brand. It’s everything canvas and linen and who knows, we can carry cotton also in the future. That wasn’t the plan. It was really just to produce canvas bags. But since we’re already doing bags and people keep asking me on Instagram what I’m wearing all the time. We all know naman that I’m not trendy and I’m not really stylish. I go for classic but quality pieces and so I thought of making our own line.
“We have more surprises. We have a collaboration with Neat Obsession for home naman. So parang this business has always been a dream pero ang bilis lang nung pangyayari and we’re really very grateful for all the support of everyone because in the middle of the pandemic maraming sumuporta sa brand namin.
“It also makes sense that all the designer brands need to stay inside the closet muna. Kasi saan ka nga ba pupunta, wala ka namang pupuntahan. It’s the new normal now. It’s all online. So, you need something very practical, very sustainable, you need to sanitize when you go back to the house it’s just easy to rewash but yung quality hindi mag-su-suffer,” she shared.
Last year, the 31-year-old actress, who is currently part of the cast of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, said the need for a more functional bag came up when she started going to work.
“I had to adjust my lifestyle because pandemic. Parang yung mga designer bags na ginagamit ko before, hindi ko na siya ginagamit. I don’t need it anymore di ba? You want something that you can disinfect agad because of the virus and if canvas ang pinag-uusapan natin you can wash it right away. And also, with the quality that we have, kahit na i-re-wash mo siya ng i-re-wash maganda pa rin. So, it’s more of that,” she explained.
When it comes to her personal life, Shaina said she wishes finding the right partner could be just as easy as finding the perfect bag to use.
“Sana kasing dali lang siya ng bags, madali lang magpagawa ng partner (laughs). Hindi siya ganun kadali eh. Sana ganun kadali i-design yung perfect partner and perfect fit with all the functionality and sustainability and yung mga requirements mo. But it’s not as simple,” she said.
Despite all the challenges of launching a business during the pandemic, Shaina said she and her business partner still have a lot to be thankful for.
“This business is so easy. We’ve been very blessed. Smooth sailing lahat and we didn’t even expect na mag-e-expand siya. I actually thought that after a few months that was going to be it but we’re being given so many opportunities to expand into home and to clothes also. It’s something very exciting and who knows kung anong magigng brand talaga ni Organized Chicas in another five months,” she added.
