South Korean actress Jun Ji-hyun opened up about the pressure she felt when she became part of the popular Netflix series Kingdom.
"Being able to participate at a later point in time for a series that I love so much, I have to say that there was quite a significant level of pressure for me," the actress said during the press conference of Kingdom: Ashin of the North, a special episode of the series as reported by ABS-CBN News.
She remarked that she used the pressure as a fuel for her performance.
"I deliberately tried to feel that positive pressure so that I could do better. I didn't want to make it look like I was just kind of joining and enjoying the ride," she stated.
Ji-hyun plays the role of Ashin in Kingdom. Her character appeared in the finale of the second season but her story has yet to be told.
Kingdom: Ashin of the North will tell the backstory of Ashin of South Korea's Joseon dynasty.
The actress relayed that when she was preparing for her role, she focused on interpreting the concept of "han" which her character in the series feels. "Han" is a Korean concept of an emotion which is the same as anger.
"I tried to focus mostly on how to interpret the personal anguish and hurt... how to interpret that emotion into wanting to avenge for the whole land of Joseon," she explained.
Kingdom: Ashin of the North is set to premiere on Netflix on July 23.
