Apart from working on the primetime series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, Shaina Magdayao has also been busy with a new passion outside of showbiz this year. Shaina, along with her longtime friend Nikki Medina, launched their bag business called Organized Chicas earlier this year with an initial aim to provide more employment.
“God has been so generous that in the middle of the pandemic nagkaroon kami ng business. But it was also because of the intention to help people. Since it started with my partner Nikki Medina. Pareho kasi kaming OC (obsessive compulsive) and then when we started taping for Ang Probinsyano, they were very strict na bawal yung mga plus one so we had to fix our own things. So sabi ko kay Nikki please help me fix my things. Siya yung nag-organize. Kaya sabi ko grabe noh, gawin kaya nating business itong mga bags that I personally use when I’m taping.
“And that’s when it started and it’s our own little way to help people, yung mga gumagawa ng bags namin during the pandemic because as we all know, most of the people nawalan ng trabaho. It’s our own to give opportunity for other people to work for us,” she shared during her Star Magic presscon.
Even though business and friendship are tricky to mix together, Shaina said she and her business partner complement each other at work.
“I’m very grateful that my partner, I call her our quality control queen. Each and every bag she makes sure na tama yung stitching, maganda yung quality bago niya i-approve. Well I like working with people from way back so she’s been my friend since first year high school or grade six.
“I like keeping my circle small and authentic so yung mga childhood friends ko hanggang ngayon friends ko pa rin sila. And then parang naging aligned yung jobs namin kasi I’m from the entertainment business and siya naman she became a professional makeup artist. She does my makeup for almost everything like ASAP before, my makeup now, my makeup for Organized Chicas.
“But we did not see this thing coming talaga na magiging business partners kami. She’s the one who’s hands on pagdating sa day-to-day management and the quality control. Nandito ako sa marketing, ako humaharap sa inyong lahat kasi ang camera shy nitong partner ko (laughs). I guess yun talaga yung strength namin. We complement each other,” she explained.
Even though she revealed she has no plans to transfer networks, Shaina said it pays to have investments outside of showbusiness. “Showbiz won’t be forever kahit na forever na ito para sa akin (laughs). Parang forever na akong nandito but hindi laging hectic or hingi laging you’re on a roll so you have to make sure that you are wise with your investment. And so so far I’ve been making the right decisions with Ystilo and with Organized Chicas,” she said, referring to her family’s successful salon franchise.
