After years of focusing on her music career, Jayda Avanzado is now ready to leave her comfort zone and finally try her hand at acting.
"Ako po, since bago po ako... kaka-sign ko lang sa Rise Artists Studio and sa Star Magic, gusto ko po talagang maka-crossover po sa multimedia platforms," the 18-year-old singer said during her guest appearance on Magandang Buhay on Thursday, July 1.
"Hindi lang po sa music, kasi over the past few years po talaga kaya po siguro hindi pa ako pumapasok sa pag-arte kasi po parang gusto ko talaga i-establish 'yung sarili ko as a singer-songwriter. Pero ngayon po, handa na po ako sumabak sa acting," she added.
Jayda, the daughter of celebrity couple Jessa Zaragoza and Dingdong Avanzado, said that as an artist, the most important thing for her is to inspire and connect with as many people as possible.
"Kahit saan man 'yun, kahit sa music man 'yun or sa pelikula," she said.
Speaking of acting, the "M.U. (Malabong Usapan)" hitmaker also reacted to being chosen by former Miss Universe Catriona Gray as the artist she would want to portray her life story in a movie.
"Ako talaga sobrang kinilig talaga ako nang bonggang bongga nung nakita ko. Talagang tuwang tuwa ako. Actually minessage ko kaagad si Ate Cat and nagpasalamat ako kasi napakalaking bagay na marinig 'yun sa kanya. It's an honor to hear that from her na she would want me to play her in a biopic or kung sa MMK man," Jayda said.
In her interview for "Metro Chats", Catriona pointed out the similarities between her and Jayda as she explained why she picked the young singer out of all local artists.
"She's so incredibly talented as a vocalist. And she also is such an old soul like me. And she's also an only child, right? So we have that in common. So yeah, I think Jayda," said the beauty queen.
Jayda, who turned 18 last month, has made a name for herself in the music industry with her hit songs such as "Happy For You" and "M.U. (Malabong Usapan)."
Last February, she made her acting debut through the music video for her single "Paano Kung Naging Tayo?"
For the music video, which also marks her directorial debut, Jayda underwent an acting workshop under ABS-CBN's talent management arm Star Magic.
"It is more than learning the lines," she said, when asked how she sees acting now after the learning experience. "[It is] more than the technical things. It makes you discover more about yourself.”
Jayda, who recently staged her first major concert, titled Jayda In Concert, appeared on Magandang Buhay to promote her debut album Bahagi, as well as her lead single "Tunay", which are now available on streaming platforms Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, Deezer, and YouTube.
