Dani Barretto shared how she and her father Kier Legaspi once got into a fight that forced them not to speak with each other for almost seven years.
In an interview with Vicki Belo, Dani opened up about her relationship with her father, Kier.
Dani, who grew up with her mom Marjorie Barretto, admitted that she felt hurt about not getting to bond with her father knowing he’s just “within her reach.”
“Because I knew that he was just around eh. I knew that hindi naman siya OFW,” she said.
Then again, she got to spend more time with him as she grew older. “Pero parang when I got older and like when I had more freedom na to reach out to him and see him, I did, I tried. I reached out to him,” she said.
Dani also opened up about living with her dad for three months to get a “different point of view” in life.
“At one point, I actually lived with him pa for three months. I was 19,” she stated.
“It was like a very dark phase in my life and at that time, I wanted to get to know him. Parang I wanted a different point of view. Parang I lived with my mom all my life. Parang I wanted naman to try to know my dad. So, I lived with him for three months,” she added.
Those few months of living with her dad allowed her to get to know her dad more according to Dani.
While she had fun living with her dad, it was short-lived due to a situation between them.
“Tapos we actually had fun. Du’n ko nakilala ‘yung dad ko. Parang we had a relationship. Parang we had great memories of him. But, naudlot siya. Parang after three months, du’n kami nagkaroon ng falling out,” she shared.
Going into details about what happened, Dani recalled the fight that forced them not to speak with each other for almost seven years.
“There was a fight. Parang a fight occurred one night. And hindi na namin na-resurrect that night. We just stopped talking after that fight. And then it has been seven years,” she said.
Despite everything that happened between them, Dani shared they managed to patch things up between them.
“I spoke to him last year. I called him,” she said. Sharing what they talked about, Dani said: “A lot of things and parang also because I had a baby.”
Dani also shared how she felt when she and Kier got on speaking terms again.
“And I was very emotional because of course I knew he’s just there and I want my daughter to know him, ‘di ba? Parang I want my daughter to know him. I don’t know want our daughter to grow up na what if she asks me about my dad wala akong masagot because I don’t know what’s happening with his life,” she said.
They have also been trying to set up a meeting but the COVID-19 situation in the country always got in the way of their plans.
“I don’t even have his number. I had to ask for his number sa Lola ko — his mom. I called him and then we spoke. We kept trying to plan to see each other but because of COVID, hindi kami matuloy-tuloy,” she said.

In 2019, Dani opened up in a YouTube vlog why her mom Marjorie will be the one walking her down the aisle.
“My mom is walking me down the aisle because it’s only right that she walks me down the aisle because she raised me on her own. Everything that I am, it’s all because of her. She is the most deserving to walk me down the aisle,” she said.
