As he marked his first lead role with award-winning director Joel Lamangan's newest film Lockdown this year, Paolo Gumabao admitted he did not hesitate to accept the daring role which is also a story about the struggle of a young man to survive the global pandemic and the naked truth about the life he chooses to live. The 22-year-old actor, who is the half-brother of actor Marco Gumabao and beauty queen Michelle Gumabao, is proud to be part of a film written by Troy Espiritu who also wrote internationally acclaimed movies Ma Rosa and Alpha: The Right To Kill.
Despite this being billed as his most daring role to date, Paolo said he is not ashamed of having a sexy image.
“Ang importante sa akin right now is accepting challenging roles and these daring roles right now where I have to show off some skin, it’s not only about showing skin. It takes a lot of focus to be butt naked and then still be able to act. So these roles na nabibigay sa akin I’m really thankful kasi they’re really pushing me to my limits and I’m being pushed outside of my comfort zone which is a good thing because if you’re not being pushed outside of your comfort zone then you’re not learning as much. So I’m very happy na ganun yung mga roles na nakukuha ko ngayon,” he explained.
Even if he already started accepting daring roles, Paolo clarified that this does not mean he wants to limit himself to the sexy genre.
“In terms of kung ito na ba yung path na gusto ko, you know I still want to take roles na wholesome din. I want to try that also kasi up to now hindi pa ako masyado nabibigyan ng ganun. Malalaman ng tao yan sa movie ko ngayon na Lockdown which is by Joel Lamangan. Makikita ng tao dun yung limits na sinasabi ko (laughs),” he said.
Off camera, Paolo said he is close to his family and makes sure to share his blessings with them when he can.
“I think it’s important to treat your family and treat yourself. So first sahod ko, kasi me and my family we like watching movies sa cinema, so nanuod kami lahat ng movie and then yung treat ko naman sa sarili ko, I bought a bunch of PS4 games (laughs),” he recalled.
