Kris Aquino has spoken about how she and her late brother, President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III, patched things up between them before he passed away on Thursday, June 24.
The actress and TV host appeared before the media following the cremation of her brother’s remains as she laid out the hurriedly made plans for his funeral.
She talked, among others, about the public viewing event which she revealed will only last for a day at the Ateneo de Manila University and the internment at the Manila Memorial Park the next day.
“Ganu’n ka-simple lang. Sana maintindihan niyo na we did not think it would happen this soon and we are just trying na hindi magkaroon ng superspreader event,” Kris shared, referring to the ongoing pandemic.
The 50-year-old showbiz personality also thanked Malacañang Palace — including President Rodrigo Duterte — for extending what she described as sincere condolences to their family.
While she did not go into details, Kris revealed that she and her brother had made peace before his untimely death.
“Hindi talaga ito namin inaakalang mangyayari. Nagulat kaming lahat. The only [thing] I can say and it’s the only thing I will say: God blessed me because we made our made peace May 8th,” she said.
“But that is private. I would like to keep that for myself. But I’m so grateful na binigay ‘yun sa akin at nagpapasalamat ako na napatawad ako at minahal ako,” she added.
Kris said she made a promise to her brother when the two of them met to settle the rift between them.
"And to the end, ang tinuring niya sa akin ay ako ang kanyang bunso. And pinangako ko sa kanya, gagawin ko ang lahat to be just even one percent of what he is as a man and as a Filipino," she said.

In a statement made on June 24, Pinky Aquino Abellada said her brother died peacefully in his sleep. He was later brought to the Capitol Medical Center.
The statement from the Aquino family also revealed that the former President was pronounced dead at 6:30 AM due to renal disease, secondary to diabetes.
