Stylist to the stars Liz Uy joined the public in mourning the death of former Philippine president Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino, who passed away early Thursday, June 24, due to renal disease, secondary to diabetes.
He was 61.
Sharing a throwback photo of Noynoy through Instagram Stories, Liz wrote, along with a white heart emoji: "Rest in peace".
She also paid tribute to the former president, saying: "Years ago, I was given the chance to style the man that would be President. To this day, I remain honored and humbled by the privilege. Maraming salamat, Mr. President. For your selfless leadership and love for the Filipino people. We are forever grateful."
In 2010, shortly after he won the presidency, Noynoy admitted that he was seeing Liz, a close friend of his sister Kris Aquino who later became his personal stylist.
"We have been spending time together as our schedules would permit, but I guess, at this point in time, that is the extent of it," he said at the time, in response to questions about his relationship with Liz.
However, when asked if this could mean that he was courting Liz, Noynoy said: "At the present time, I'm just recovering also from a recent engagement, and there's just too many things. And the schedules on both sides are such that it's difficult to find common time, and especially when you are not given private time."
Liz, for her part, denied ever being in a romantic relationship with Noynoy in a 2014 interview on the ABS-CBN show Tapatan Ni Tunying.
“They say my job is my boyfriend. I don’t have enough time to be in a relationship because of my hectic schedule,” she said.
Liz, 39, is now married to businessman Raymond Racaza. They have two children -- Xavi, who will be turning 4 in September, and Matias, whom they welcomed just last March.
Aside from Liz, other celebrities who took to social media to mourn the death of Noynoy included Sharon Cuneta, Charo Santos, Liza Soberano, Vice Ganda, Janine Gutierrez, Ogie Alcasid, Enchong Dee, and Zsa Zsa Padilla
