Local celebrities took to social media to mourn the death of former president Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, who passed away early Thursday, June 24, at the age of 61.
The former president, who is a known smoker, was rushed to the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City just hours before his death. His sister, actress-host Kris Aquino, was seen entering the hospital but did not give a statement to the press.
Former spokesperson Abigail Valte said the Aquino family will be releasing an official statement later Thursday.
Noynoy served as the 15th president of the Philippines from 2010 to 2016. He was the son of slain senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and former Philippine president Corazon "Cory" Aquino.
