"Hello" is James' latest release after his song "Soda", which recently hit one million views on YouTube.
It was in 2017 when James, 28, released his first studio album Palm Dreams, which included his hit songs "Cool Down", "Turning Up", and "The Life".
In an interview with Esquire Philippines, the Filipino-Australian actor shared that he put up Careless because of great feedback on that record.
"Given that it was pop, it was original and no one else was making music like that. So, there was a lot of room to grow and it was exciting. It’s been difficult as an indie label but my main driving force for doing this is being able to give other local artists the same opportunities for success that I had with the tools and platform that I didn’t," he said.
He also revealed that growing up, he was heavily influenced by his older brother in music.
"Growing up in the ‘90s he introduced me to the Fugees, De La Soul, Gorillaz, Air, and Daft Punk which I think has influenced me the most. But recently Tame Impala and Khruangbin have got me on a neo-psychedelic-soul-funk wave," he said.
As to whether fans can expect a new album from him soon, James said: "I’m not exactly in album mode right now. But definitely with new music I’ll be diving more into the ‘Soda’ sound."
Aside from James's new single, another reason for "JaDine" fans to be excited is his former girlfriend and Careless artist Nadine Lustre's upcoming digital concert Absolute Madness.
The concert, which Careless has described as a "sonic and visual experience like no other", will happen on July 3 via Kumu Live.
