Joining the current roster of the recently launched Squad Plus at ABS-CBN is YouTuber Danica Ontengco who admitted she still can’t believe she made the cut to be part of the talented group. “Nung una kasi talagang nagulat ako kasi dati pangarap ko lang yun tapos ngayon part na ako ng ganito. Kaya super thankful and super nakakataba lang ng puso talaga,” she shared during the Squad Plus media launch last May 3.

Before showbiz, Danica was a longtime YouTuber who enjoyed posting makeup tutorials and travel videos. “Actually yung first video ko was 2010. I was a kid kasi. I tried posting toys, ganyan. I videoed my toys and then I’d vlog it without showing my face so parang that’s where it started. Tapos I stopped nung tumanda na ako tapos yung sunod na pinost ko was covers. I was singing with my guitars, ganyan. Then nakita ko na may views. So sabi ko why not try makeup videos naman. Then tuloy na tuloy na yun. Nag-upload lang ako ng nag-upload,” she recalled.

Discovered and managed by Ogie Diaz when she first started showbiz, Danica got her first taste of acting playing a mean girl in the popular afternoon series Kadenang Ginto.

“Friend ako dun ni Andrea Brillantes dun as Nadia. So parang ako yung inis inisan niya dun. Dun ako nag-start and then yung next ko na show was La Vida Lena. Napapanuod siya ngayon sa iWant TFC. Yung role ko naman dun si Allison na kapatid ni ate Sofia Andres dun,” she said.

Because of her convincing portrayal onscreen, Danica admitted to receiving a lot of bashing online. “Of course meron. Madami akong nababasa na mga masasama pero wala naman sa akin yun. Natutuwa pa nga ako eh kasi nakakatawa. Hindi naman ako naiinis sa ganun. Mas natutuwa ako na may comments sila about me at napapansin nila ako,” she added.

Now that she is ready to take on more acting challenges as part of Squad Plus, Danica said she is not afraid to take on more kontrabida roles. “Willing naman ako. Wala namang problema sa akin andthe reason why kumportable ako sa ganung roles is because may kapatid ako and lagi kaming nag-aaway, ganyan (laughs). Pero hindi naman ako talaga masama,” she said.
