Two years after it was first announced that he and Belle Mariano would be starring in the live action series adaptation of the popular Wattpad and Precious Pages book series He’s Into Her, Donny Pangilinan said he did not lose patience in waiting for the series to finally go on air. The onscreen couple first made their appearance in the film James and Pat and Dave.
“Actually we were already towards the ending of James and Pat and Dave when we decided to add that end scene. So it was towards the end already. Hindi namin actually alam. So we were already shooting He’s Into Her and nadagdagan pa yun. I think na-maintain naman yung chemistry kasi dun nag-start eh sa mga first leg. I think we really didn’t have a problem in terms of nainip or stuff like that. Hindi ako nainip,” he said.
After their taping schedule got postponed due to last year’s lockdown, Donny said he really looked forward to going back on set to finish the ten episode series which premieres on iWant TFC on May 28 before becoming available on free TV on May 30.
“What excites me is just the fact that it’s been so long. And we’re finally all here. This pandemic has made us realize a lot of things and of the things for me was that I really missed to be on set, I really missed working. And I’m just so happy that this show that’s been in the works for quite some time is finally airing. I think I could share the same sentiments as everyone else are all so excited to just let everyone see what we’ve been working on,” he shared.
Playing the lead role of Deib Lohr in the high school rom-com, Donny said it was serendipitous as he had actually tweeted He’s Into Her author Maxine Jiji way back in 2017 hoping to get the chance to work with her someday.
“From the very beginning, I’m just so blessed to showcase not just this show but the entire cast and crew. I’m just really glad that this entire cast and crew become a family. Sobrang proud ako sa cast na ito kasi we gave it our all. I really believe that. And kung anong expectation nila sa shooting, I think we gave it times two, times three, times four, times 10,” he said.
If there is one thing he is worried about with the show’s release, the 23-year-old actor said it is how the book’s huge fan following will accept the revisions and deviations from the book’s original storyline.
“Marami rin eh. Hindi mo naman alam kung ano magiging reaction ng mga tao. There is also that pressure to maybe reach that expectation of a lot of people for the book. Especially that there are some scenes na wala sa book and there are some changes. But overall it’s more of good pressure kasi alam ko na pinaghirapan namin ito. We gave our best and alam namin that at the end of the day we all just wanted to give something that will inspire people and make them go through a rollercoaster of emotions and I believe we did that,” he added.
