Power couple Bill and Melinda Gates have announced that they are divorcing after 27 years of marriage.
In a joint statement posted on Twitter, the couple said, "After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage."
They stressed that though they will be parting ways as a couple, they will continue to work together on their foundation.
"We have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation," they said.
The pair founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, an organization which has been on the forefront of pursuing initiatives to address global health and poverty.
Though they will continue working together at the foundation, the couple said that they no longer believe they "can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives."
"We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life," they remarked.
