After launching his debut album Childlike earlier this month, singer and composer Kean Cipriano described his first solo effort under his label OC Records.

“It’s flirty, it’s somewhat horny, basta malandi yung album. Kaya Childlike din yung pangalan nung album I’ve been trying to find the perfect album title.

Which is so hard to feel again, na maging raw ulit, yung parang nagsisimula ka ulit. I’m at this time in my life na 33 na ako and mahirap ibalik yung pagiging raw pero na-feel ko dito sa album na para akong bata ulit yung pakiramdam na kaya ko siyang patugtugin ulit ng paulit ulit, parang ganun,” he said.

Ang tagal kong nag-iisip talaga ng title for the album. Kapag may naisip ako.

“So ang laking proseso. Pero now ayan na siya, ayan na yung album and super proud ako dito dahil hindi ako nag-compromise sa kahit na anong aspeto. Hindi ko siya inisip na kailangan ko mag-release ng songs na dapat bebenta or commerical or I need hit songs for this kasi for the past 15 years ko with my band Callalily, I’m happy that we’ve achieved a certain degree sa career namin and kumbaga it’s refreshing para sa akin na gumawa ng something na hindi ko kailangang sumunod sa kung ano yung na-establish sa amin.

“I mean being in a band for 15 years, mag-si-16 years na this year, I’m happy na may na-achieve na certain brand or distinct style, a certain sound, and I need to collaborate with my bandmates of course.

Having composed six out of the nine tracks in the album, Kean also explained how Childlike is different from the sound of Callalily.

Sa banda kasi namin, I’m not the hitmaker type. Sa isang album namin may gagawin kami na 12 songs. Ako susulat nung nine songs. Pero yung tatlong songs yun yung gagamiting single. Kumbaga yun yung commercially appealing. Parang ganun. Kumbaga ito yung talagang tunog ko as ako.

Aside from producing all the tracks, Kean shared that the other songs include a previously released track with Nadine Lustre, one from a Hong Kong based artist, and one from OC Records discovery Martin Riggs.

Explaining one of the stories behind one of his new singles “Take Me Out,” Kean said it was dedicated to a higher power.

Yung song na ito believe it or not, it’s actually my song to the higher power, the man above. It’s really parang a worship song for me.

In a snap of a finger, puwedeng wala na lahat. Like what’s happening now, biglang tapos lahat ng gigs eh.

As the voice behind the Callalily hit song “Magbalik”, Kean said he is ready to move on to his more personal sound.

It’s not that I’m not proud of the things we did before, pero ano kasi, may mga bagay na kailangan mo i-kompromiso. Dito wala at all,” he explained.
