Veteran actor Art Acuna shares why ‘Almost Paradise’ is one of his favorite projects

Having been part of the crime drama series Almost Paradise, actor Art Acuna said he was impressed by the talent shown by their stuntmen while filming the ABS-CBN and Electric Entertainment series in Cebu City.

“Bilib ako sa kanila. They really knew what they were doing and hindi sila takot na matamaan. Kasi iba sa kanila may natamaan ako actually eh. Nag-sorry na lang pero sabi niya, ‘Okay lang yun sir.’ Pero may tama talaga. It was accidental. That just comes from the heat of the moment,” he explained.

The veteran actor, who has been part of local and international productions on screen and on stage, said he also enjoyed doing the action scenes in Almost Paradise.

“I’ve dabbled in a few martial arts especially western boxing but there are choreographed scenes and fight scenes in Almost Paradise and I had to start from scratch and adapt to what’s called for in the scene. You don’t just fight di ba? You have to fight knowing where the camera is. You have to fight knowing not to hit your scene partner and your stunt partners,” he said.

With the show currently on its finale week, Art Acuna reveals how he enjoyed playing his role of Ernesto. “Because maraming facets of his personality that are actually similar to mine. That’s what an actor does, he looks at the piece of paper in front of him, the role and the lines written out but there’s no character there. The character is really him. How can you adapt yourself to what you see in the page, that piece of paper along with who you are and the mechanics you have as a human being and then you come up with something. I have to say there was something very calm, and accessible with the role. So I didn’t feel like I was playing him,” he explained.

When asked how the series was different from his previous roles, Art said he liked to treat each project as separate from the rest “They are all different from each other. I never purposely seek what what’s similar or different. I just see it as something new. So I always start from step one and then build from there. So this is one of my most favorite characters I’ve ever played definitely,” he said.
