Pageant-loving fans have been calling on Liza Soberano to join Miss Universe for quite some time now. But it seems the Kapamilya star has made up her mind not to join the pageant.
During an appearance on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s online show Kapamilya Chat, the 23-year-old star made a clear response when asked what she has to say about people urging her to join the pageant.
While Liza admitted to feeling flattered with the calls from the public, she reiterated that she believes it’s not for her.
“I’m very flattered, nakakakilig na gusto ng mga tao na sumali ako sa Miss Universe,” she said. “But, like I’ve always said noon pa, I really don’t think it’s for me,” she stated.
Liza added that her appearances on the long-running Sunday variety show “alone give her anxiety.
“I get anxiety when I’m on stage. ‘ASAP’ pa nga lang, sasayaw lang naman ako, hindi naman magsasalita, grabe na ‘yung kaba ko,” she said. “What more if it was for Miss Universe? I don’t think that I would give justice to everybody’s expectations. I think I would pass out on stage,” she added.
Liza, who played Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach on Maalaala Mo Kaya in 2017, got to experience joining “Miss Universe” — including the training for the pageant — through the show.
“Na-experience ko kahit paano ‘yung training for Miss U,” she said. “Grabe, ang taas ng heels na sinusuot nila! Ako, hindi ako sanay sa sobrang mataas ng heels, kasi may height na rin ako. Sanay ako sa mababa,” she added.
She continued: When I tried the high heels, I was tripping all the time. Malamang, 'pag sumali ako sa Miss U, madadapa din ako sa stage, even though may training.”
Apart from her fans, the Kapamilya star has also received motivating words from Miss Universe titleholders Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray in the past.
The young actress’s name came up recently after fans urged her to join the competition following Rabiya Mateo’s finish as a Top 21 finalist. She took to social media to address the issue which involved a Facebook page claiming she will join to take back the crown.

Meanwhile, Liza also left a message for Rabiya during her Kapamilya chat appearance. “When we found out she wasn’t going to be part of the top 10, we all felt really hurt for her. It wasn’t fair! Of course, bias natin ang Philippines. Everything she has been going through, all the training, hindi talaga siya biro,” she said.
“Win or lose, she’s still a winner for all of us Filipinos. I believe she represented us very well. She made us all proud. She did so amazing on stage,” she added.
Liza appeared on Kapamilya Chat with her onscreen partner and real-life boyfriend Enrique Gil as part of catch-up for the show Dolce Amore.
