After shooting an episode of the American crime drama Almost Paradise in Cebu City before the pandemic, director Dan Villegas shared how different the production process was after working with foreign actors like Christian Kane.

Madami lessons, number one yung western way of doing things. Kumbaga dito sa atin we have our own system of shooting tapos sobrang I was surprised on how professional the foreign actors were. Pagdating sa set super memorized na nila yung lines nila. You don’t really have to read lines with them. Sa script reading pa lang they come in prepared and memorized na nila yung script. Plus I appreciated the whole process of it na kumbaga everything is pre-approved before you shoot,” he shared during the Almost Paradise mediacon. Dan is oen of the four Filipino directors tapped for Almost Paradise together with Francis Dela Torre, Hannah Espia, and Irene Villamor.

Direk Dan, who also directed films like Exes Baggage and Hintayin ng Langit, said he was able to take what he learned from the ABS-CBN and Electric Entertainment production and apply it to his other projects.

Actually yung mga natutunan ko sa Almost Paradise in-a-apply ko na sa mga shoots ko dito sa Philippines like yung everything is pre-approved before you shoot. So ang dami kong natutunan eh and I think really you have to be a sponge and absorb everything, lahat ng positive experiences na nakuha mo dun. At the start siyempre intimidating di ba parang Hollywood level yung production tapos papasok ka dun. Thankfully nairos naman (laughs),” he said.

Aside from the foreign members of the cast, Dan shared his experience with the Cebuano actors who were part of the film.

Super fun sila kasama yung mga taga Cebu. Hindi lang sila super fun kundi they’re very professional. For me kasi it’s very important that you’re working hard and having fun also so masaya sila kasama sa set, parang even the tougher scenes na kunwari masakit na ulo mo, it becomes even lighter because you are working with people who are very welcoming. Super bait. So super thankful kami na parang they are very nice, very welcoming, and very professional,” he added.

Almost Paradise has brought action and thrill to Filipinos since March last year. This Sunday (May 16), features guest actors Sophia Reola, Isay Alvarez, Teroy Guzman, Miko Raval, Boom Labrusca, Joel Molina, and Lesley Lina.

Kai (Samantha Richelle) is in danger as Alex gets entangled in her undercover operation. In the finale, expect more drama and action as Alex tries to save her daughter when a person from his past returns for revenge.
