After posting about her non-showbiz boyfriend Norman Ben Bay last October, Bela Padilla shared more details about her current relationship during a guest appearance on The Third World Cinema Club podcast last month. The 29-year-old actress met Norman while shooting abroad in 2017.

“Nagkakilala kami nung nag-shu-shoot kami ni direk Irene (Villamor) ng Meet Me in St. Gallen sa Switzerland. So taga dun siya. So ilang years na yung Meet Me in St. Gallen, mag-fu-four years na this year. Tapos friends na kami for four years tapos one year pa lang kami ngayon. Initially hindi namin tinry siguro kasi nga ang layo tapos ang gastos kung magkikita kami palagi and mas possible kasi na ako yung lumilipad papunta dun so nakakapagod isipin. Parang nung una hindi binigyan ng chance. Pero since nag-pandemic parang ngayon it evened out everyone’s situations so parang napag-isipan na puwede i-try this year. Kasi never naman kami nawalan ng communication parang throughout the four years,” she shared.

Despite living in separate countries, Bela said that the long-distance relationship set up is not that difficult for her. “LDR ako ngayon. Medyo matagal na rin. Parang mag-iisang taon na. Okay naman. Kakalabas lang namin ni direk Irene (Villamor) sa lock-in bubble so parang first time na nasa bahay ako ulit. Wala akong ginagawa. Naka Facetime lang kami na ako sumasagot ng crossword tapos siya nagtatrabaho kasi work from home siya ngayon. Ganun lang. Para din kayong hindi LDR kasi parang you do things together, ganun. Parang ganun lang yung routine namin. Pero very boring couple kasi kami so masaya na kami sa ganun. Hindi naghahanap ng excitement. Kaya siguro nag-wo-work yung LDR namin,” she explained.

Unlike her previous relationship, Bela said she enjoys the space she and Ben give each other.

“Nag-wo-work siya more for me. Kasi yung ugali ko hindi siya sobrang Filipino. Parang mas Western ako mag-isip so bagay sa akin yun. Yun ang nag-wo-work for me. Kasi yung first boyfriend ko was super through and through Filipino, yung bago ka lumabas ng bahay magpapadala ka ng picture kung gaano kaiksi yung suot mo. Yung ganung level. Parang too much for me yun. Hindi ko kaya yun. Ayoko yung hirit na maiksi masyado yung shorts mo, mga ganun. Nasa Pilipinas tayo sobrang init guys. So hindi nag-wo-work sa akin yun. Or yung, ‘Kumain ka na ba?’ maya’t maya. I think it’s safe to say na kakain ako today at some point kasi gusto ko naman mabuhay so hindi kailangan nagtatanong maya’t maya ng kumain ka na ba. Kaya nag-wo-work siguro sa akin yung relationship ko ngayon kasi ang usapan namin ngayon, ang weird eh, mas serious pero mas low-key, minsan tanga lang yung pinag-uusapan namin pero nag-wo-work. Kanya kanya naman yun eh. Kanya kanya ng trip,” she said.

Before dating Norman, Bela was rumored to be dating her former My Dear Heart co-star Zanjoe Marudo in 2018. She previously dated film producer Neil Arce.
