Playing a troubled character in his latest Kapamilya series Init Sa Magdamag, JM De Guzman shared why he did not hesitate to accept the project.
“Hindi siya mediocre yung storya. And kung paano nag-collaborate yung creatives and yung mga artists, staff, kami kami po. Pinag-uusapan talaga namin. Talagang puso’t kaluluwa namin yung inilatag namin dito para the best way we can to tell the story. Sana may maka-relate, sana may maiangat kami na nandun sa sitwasyon gaya nung sitwasyon nung tatlo naming characters and yun yung pangako na maibibigay namin. Mahirap din yung pinagdaanan naming lahat para gawin itong story,” he said during the Init Sa Magdamag mediacon last April 5.
In his role as Yam Concepcion’s husband in the series, JM said he had multiple pegs for his character who will be Gerald Anderson’s new onscreen rival.
“Nung pinitch sa akin yung character, I asked them na bigyan ng masustansiyang back story yung character. Nagtanong ako kumuha ng pegs like sa character ni Lucifer in terms of body language, yung sa character ng Kingdom na may fighter na drug addict na edgy, so kumha ako sa kanila ng mga peg and then sabay sabay naming minold nila direk. So yun si Petersen Alvarez,” he said.
JM also shared the current state of his heart. “Masaya. Mahal mo yung tao so kung saan siya mag-i-improve, kung saan siya mag-go-grow. Mahal mo eh. Yung state siguro ng puso ko ngayon is always aiming for maturity. So that’s why I love acting, that’s why passion ko siya talaga because I get to confront yung mga hindi ko alam na weak part ng pagkatao ko when presented a character na may ganitong conflict, may ganitong dynamics. So okay siya lagi sa akin kapag hindi ko pa na-e-experience yung character na yun kasi at the end of the day, when I reflect and tumingin ako sa sarili ko at i-compare ko dun sa character na binuo namin sa teleserye na ito, natuturuan ako somehow to be a better person and actor,” he shared.
Just like his character onscreen who changed his bad ways because of his love for a woman, JM shared if he could do the same out of love.
“Sa personal na opinion ko, naniniwala ako kay Jesus and sa pamamaraan ng pag-ibig can change the world so it’s a powerful thing. It can hurt you, it can kill you, it can make you better, it can make you someone na hindi mo akalain magiging ikaw. But it’s a very powerful thing,” he added.
