Actress Sharon Cuneta has expressed interest in playing the lead role in the Philippine adaptation of BBC's award-winning drama Doctor Foster.
This after the hashtag "SHARONCUNETA DRFOSTERPH" became a trending topic on Twitter as dozens of fans called for her casting as Dr. Foster.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, April 27, Sharon said she would love to play the title role in the highly anticipated remake.
"OMG! Thank you so much! Would absolutely love to play her!" she said.
She tagged the Instagram accounts of ABS-CBN, Lauren Dyogi, NY Entourage Productions, and Angel Yang in her post before using the hashtag #DrFoster.
Aside from Sharon, her fellow screen veteran and good friend Judy Ann Santos has emerged as a popular pick to play the title character. Jodi Sta. Maria, Angel Aquino, Iza Calzado, and Sunshine Dizon have also been rumored to be in the running for the role.
As for the mistress character, Fan Girl actress Charlie Dizon was earlier rumored to have been given the role, but she has since denied this in an interview [LINK: https://push.abs-cbn.com/2021/4/15/fresh-scoops/charlie-dizon-reacts-to-rumors-she-landed-a-role-i-192854]. Meanwhile, other popular choices for the role have so far included Julia Barretto, Janine Gutierrez, and Liza Soberano.
It was early this month when BBC Studios and ABS-CBN announced that they have forged an agreement that will see the gripping psychological drama Doctor Foster remade for the Filipino audience.
The series, which was adapted in South Korea as the popular The World of the Married, follows the story of a trusted doctor whose life is torn apart when she suspects her husband of having an affair.
Doctor Foster was originally written by Mike Bartlett and produced by Drama Republic.
Last year, ABS-CBN aired its South Korean version, locally known as The World of a Married Couple.
