Media giant ABS-CBN has inked a deal with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for the Philippine adaptation of Doctor Foster — the drama that inspired that hit Korean series World of the Married.

Filipino viewers can soon expect a local adaptation of Doctor Foster as ABS-CBN and BBC Studios officially announced on Tuesday, April 13, the Filipino adaptation of the award-winning series.

It follows the story of a well-respected doctor whose marriage starts to crumble after her husband’s extramarital affair turned things around between them.

Aside from the Philippines, countries that have made adaptations — which has won a British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) — are South Korea, France, Russia, Turkey, and India.

ABS-CBN president and CEO Carlo Katigbak, ABS-CBN COO of broadcast Cory Vidanes, ABS-CBN Entertainment Production head Laurenti Dyogi, and ABS-CBN Dreamscape Entertainment head Deo Endrinal will serve as executive producers of the show.

BBC shared its excitement for the local adaptation of the show under ABS-CBN’s helm.

“It truly is an honor to know that ‘Doctor Foster’ will be coming to life in the Philippines under the extraordinary creative team at ABS-CBN Entertainment,” SVP Format Sales for BBC Studios André Renaud said in a statement.

He added: “I know that they will not only craft a unique and special story, but that they will capture the complex struggle of modern relationships from the perspective of the strong female character that sits at the heart of this series. I am confident this will be a hit among the Filipino audiences.”

Cory Vidanes, on the other hand, called the partnership a “privilege” and promised to deliver a retelling with “unique Filipino elements.”

“It is a privilege for us to be able to produce this highly engaging and relatable story for the Filipino audience. A scorned woman’s strength is real as she fights to stay whole when the marriage and family she values most is falling apart,” Vidanes said.

She added: “True to our commitment to serving the Filipino, we are excited to create our own retelling of this beautiful story, to see the characters come alive with unique Filipino elements that will definitely excite our audiences.”
