After bringing to life the role of Gabriel in the soap Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin which started last August and will air its finale this month, Sam Milby admitted it was a challenge for him to adjust to their lock-in taping schedule which had long breaks in between.
“It was a challenge I have to admit. Yung dalawang actresses na lead na sobrang strong na characters, and Gabriel is up in the middle mula dun sa umpisa. Making that decision of fighting for his love but also nagkamali siya with another woman na best friend pa ng asawa niya so it was quite a challenge in trying to deliver the role. Nagpapasalamat talaga ako sa cast at sa mga directors sa tulong nila.
“And it was also a challenge because of the new normal. Hindi dire-diretso yung taping namin, so yung mga lock-ins namin three weeks, one month, and then mahaba yung break namin. Sa mahahabang break, it’s hard to get back into the role pag nag-start ulit ng taping so that’s another challenge that I did have. Mas lalo na itong last taping namin, over one-month yata yung break namin tapos puro pasabog yung mga eksena so it’s so hard. Pag dire-diretso yung taping it’s so much easier kasi you’re going straight through. But with the long breaks you really have to take time to study and to get back into the character kung saan galing yung character mo,” he explained.
Having more time to bond with his fellow cast members off camera gave Sam a more memorable experience on the show.
“It’s been such a huge blessing para sa akin. I’ve really enjoyed playing this role as Gabriel. I want to thank yung buong cast just for making itong bagong normal, it became so much easier because of everyone that we were with, honestly. Siyempre may pandemya, we’re locked in in the same location pero ang sarap na kayo ang kasama ko. I really love yung pagsasama namin, just everything we’ve gone through. Mas lalo sa leading cast, kahit yung mga latecomers, thank you so much for sharing your heart sa amin. And sa mga leading ladies ko. Actually, the whole cast maliban kay Jodi I think halos lahat ng main cast parang first time na nakasama ko. Grabe the heart and just everything they gave to this whole project, Nakilala talaga namin ang isa’t isa and everyone has been so amazing,” he said.
Working with strong empowered actresses like Iza Calzado and Maricel Soriano was also a blessing for Sam. “Izadora, I’ve enjoyed so much working with you, you being my wife and everything. I’ve really enjoyed this project and sana hindi ito yung last na project natin together. Kay Ms. Maricel I was so nervous working with her but she’s so grabe yung heart niya, sobrang giving niya sa lahat ng eksena and I love working with her,” he said.
With the series on its last month run, Sam hopes more people can watch, especially now that the show wil be aired on TV5. “Last two weeks yung lahat ng pasabog so sana mag-catch up yung viewers before watching the two weeks kahit papaano. But it’s a huge blessing to be shown nationwide on free TV so maraming salamat. That’s a huge blessing,” he added.
