Angel Locsin expressed her disagreement with President Rodrigo Duterte's recent statement about the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the Philippines marked its first year since it was placed under quarantine because of the pandemic on Monday, March 15, the president was quoted saying, "Do not despair. Kaya natin ito COVID na ito. Maliit na bagay ito sa buhay natin."
He added, "Marami tayong dinaanan mas ano, mas grabe, mas mahirap, mas magluluha kayo... Lahat kayo 'wag kayong matakot."
Angel shared a screenshot of the statement of the head of state on her Instagram Stories which was originally posted by ABS-CBN News.
Angel then voiced out her disagreement with what Duterte said. The actress remarked, "Maliit na bagay? Baka po sa inyo, Sir. Para sa amin po kasi malaki."
The actress added, "Malaking utang. Malaking taas ng cases. Malaking human rights violations."
Angel has been at the forefront of providing aid to those who were affected by the pandemic since last year.
In June last year, Angel alongside her friends Anne Curtis and Dimples Romana spearheaded the "Shop and Share" initiative which aimed to provide COVID-19 test kits to marginalized Filipinos.
In April 2020, she also was able to raise funds for her #UniTentWeStandPH initiative which aimed to provide hospital tents to COVID-19 hospitals.
Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made some clarifications about the president's statement and stressed that the head of state is not belittling the pandemic.
“Ang sinasabi ng Presidente, temporary lang po ‘yan. Hindi po ‘yan forever. Lilipas din po ‘yan at pagdating po ng bakuna, magkakaroon nga po tayo ng solution sa ating problema, magkakaroon tayo ng new normal,” Harry explained in an online briefing as reported by ABS-CBN News.
“Hindi po minamaliit ng ating Presidente ang ating paghihirap. Ang sinasabi po niya, babangon naman po tayo dyan, we will heal as one,” he added.
